Back Protectors

Must admit I don't wear one at all... Tried a Knox and dianese but just couldn't get comfortable...

Saw these recently and thought I might give it a try, specially on tour / track.

I dont know that one, but your last point is very important. Protection is one of those things that you get used to and sometimes have to make a point of getting used to. I felt safer and more confident with my back protector, but took a little getting used to the chest protector. I now feel naked without either and hence ride very differently without either.

 

I couldn't fit a chest protector under my one piece, a bit of a squeeze getting the pro4 in being as it is so Damn big

Very comfy no sweating issues.. fits nicely under my leathers.

And I wouldn't ride without it any more.

 

have tha same one and love it.fits well under the leathers
and textile jacket for the shorter shop runs.

 

Great response, big thanks to everyone who has posted so far, also nice to see I am not the only one without one lol. I will have a good look at all the ones you have suggested and then try and come up with a decision.

I am a bad example for safety clothing in some ways, I tend to go for comfort over safety and I know that is crazy. As some have said, although it may feel odd at first, I need to get used to it.

It was the same for me with ear plugs. Never bothered couldn't get on with them then made the effort and now can't go out without them.

 

me too, comfort first which is why I am bad and wear jeans too much.
but the knox aegis fits that well you forget your wearing it.

 

Jeans is my big thing as well Phantom haha I just didn't want to admit it ! I always protect my head well and buy good jackets and gloves, but the butt and legs just don't feel comfy in anything like my jeans. Tried the Draggin jeans on and didn't feel comfy, I really hate textile and leather trousers, stupid I know, but I feel comfier and more relaxed in jeans. When it's very cold though I put another layer over the top......windproof nylon type leggings.

 

I was wearing a knox back protector when my bike fell over last year. Didn't stop my back getting twatted.

 

@MrB, ear plugs as well ! damn I have so much to overcome.

 

I slid down the antrim coast with a ducati on my back and it saved me.limped away
with a bruise the shape of the protector.

note the fairing damage but lack of scores from the road lol

 

Never thought of using a duck as a back protector.

 

That is probably why you hurt your back Blaggers, you failed to wear a Ducati back protector. I knew it must have been your own fault.

 

it doesnt work too well, a chipped bone in my shoulder
proved that.didnt realise how much you cant do when you
hurt your shoulder badly, even getting dressed was an effort lol.

 

Dainese Wave for me, although if I'm honest I didn't wear it much cause after some good living i couldn't slip a tenner into my leathers let alone a back protector. lol Plan is to get fit and get safe.

 

Never ever ride without one, and they've saved me a worse battering on a couple of occasions,
Wear one of these when its too hot for leathers and just throw a fleece or hoody over it,


In all my jackets I've removed the solid plastic type protectors, dainese wave type and Knox hard armour and replaced them with D30 armour from GetGeared.


It's really light and incredibly flexible until it hits something, like the B1224, when it goes solid, salesman did waffle on about "custard technology" but I think they use something similar to make combat body armour now as well, lighter to wear but works really well.

Haven't tested it down the road yet mind

I have a A stars bionic one that I got measured up for when I brought my one piece last year. Fits like a glove, unfortunately I have put on a few pounds since I brought the suit so you wouldn't even get a feeler gauge down the back just now let alone a glove so it’s hanging in the wardrobe. Only worn it twice and whilst it’s comfy it takes some getting used to. But, for those old enough to remember, so did wearing seat belts in a car but we all did and now it feels strange if you don't.
When I lose a bit of weight I will give it a go again.
One other thing, wheels in Peterborough hold a great stock and if pushed will do a deal. I negotiated on the suit first, when I was happy I moved onto the back protector which they offered FoC to sweeten the deal. As I got cash off the suit the FoC was withdrawn but I still got it for not far off half price, down from over a hundred quid, so I was well chuffed. They won't offer but are open to a debate and will squeak if pushed hard enough.

 

i wear mine...... every now and then, no excuse really , feels a bit stiff at first but soon softens up
