Guys has anyone ever done this or know anyone that has or can 100% confirm a 2012 kit will fit a 2009 bike? I've rung a Honda dealer and they tentatively said they didn't think it was possible as the parts were mostly not the same shape. Basically they couldn't confirm or deny but said they wouldn't put their money on it being possible.

Another member on here is selling the 2012 kit in my colour scheme and I have been toying with it as an idea to repair the damaged left side of my bike. I really can't afford to purchase the kit and find out it doesn't fit and also I'm not even sure I have half the skill required to fit it so it's a right gamble.

The headlight and air tubes required that are known to be totally different are included as are most infill panels but will it all fit?

Hi navvy, you know my thoughts buddy but I've never done it so can't say with absolute 100% confidence. As the kit comes with airtubes, headlights, and all the infills I think it's a straight fit.

Why do I think that, well frame, seat subframe, engine, mirrors, wheel fitments are all the same. So whilst visually the panels look different, they are bolting to the same body.

Hey, let's see what the view is here from people that have more experience. Btw, I'm pretty sure you'll be just fine fitting the kit. It's like big meccano, and I didn't find it too tricky at all. Just take some time, and don't force anything that doesn't fell like it fits.

That is a tricky one - something to consider is even the clock mount bracket is the same - i know this as Dunlops 2012 Racebike clock bracket is now fitted to my 2008 bike and part numbers are the same.

WHen you put the bikes side by side you can see that they really are so similar I think you will be fine - tank cover is different so make sure you get that plus the side pods etc.

In terms of skill what I suggest is that you really, really take your time - mark up / label which bolts are from where and take lots of advice - there are enough people here with experience that would help out for half a day to get you going in return for tea / coffee and maybe a small beer token as a thankyou

Dunlops clock bracket? Was that from the 12 blade I saw in the back of Hunts workshop? Jamie was happy to show me round it, I'm sure it was his 2012 tt bike?

Yep - I am 99% sure that's on my bike

Hunts treat my Blade as their 'learning curve' bike - stuff they have to do on mine is almost always the first they have done things like replace cam chain tensioner one, replace piston rings when it was 6 months old,

They really helped bring my blade back from the dead - with either large parts or pesky clips / fixings etc.

I reckon, you two should get together one weekend and try fitting it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Ha! There are a few of us down here who know the country doesn't stop at Watford! I was up for a bit of work in Chester, and popped by to see the boys at hunts. I love the way they do business, and they sorted me out with my last blade.

So far everyone I talked to or any research I have done has come up with the two kits not being interchangeable :(

Hi navvy, I've been in touch with mark (yorkshiregooner) and he tells me that with the airtubes, headlights, and infils, the 2012+ fairings WILL fit the 08-11's. I can't think of a person better to know or believe on the matter ( no offence to our Honda dealers, but I suspect very few of the parts guys behind the counters will have ever stripped a blade down. Mark on the other hand does it everyday!)

Oh well, he seemed pretty positive last night!

I don't see how it's a difficult job though. I can strip back a blade in less than a couple of hours and I'm by no means an expert. I'm getting very tempted to just buy another 08 blade and stick the kit and wheels on and sell it done. At least that way i can prove my suspicions right. Anyone got a cheap knocked about 08 for sale?

I hear you mate.... Wish I had the money to take the risk. I only need a left fairing and upper front cowl and I'm pretty much fixed. I can do the generator casing and clutch lever anytime. If I had done more damage to the bodywork it may have been more worth the risk.

Ok so if you look at the link to ebay another guy with a 2010 blade bought the fairing for right side from a 2012 and it doesn't fit so I think it's official that they are different..... :(

honda cbr1000rr side fairing | eBay

"This is a right hand side fairing for a Honda CBR1000rr. Black in colour.
I bought this as a spare fairing for my 2010 blade and it doesn't fit.
This fairing is for a 2012 onwards CBR1000rr and is in perfect condition apart from a small crack at the very top of the fairing which I've tried to show in the pictures. This would make an ideal track fairing or a very easy repair for a road bike fairing.
    Happy bidding
Winning bidder will receive the item packaged in the original Honda box"

If he thought he could stick the 2012 side fairing on the 2010 he needs help. Without the nose cone, belly pan, and airtubes he may as well have been trying to bolt an rc8 fairing on the side!

I think you can, but you need the 2012 headlight and maybe different air tubes, but that's it.

I have a 2012 tank shelter (with airbox covers and underseat fairing) which I sometimes put on and it fits perfectly.

Not quite the same as side fairings and nose, but it's a good indicator :)

I have seen r1 farings fitted to a 98 gixer and I have seen k8 gixer farings on an old fzr
That tells me that anything is possible but I suppose it could involve alot of work or money

2006/07 fairings can fit 2004 /05 bikes only need to change top radiator mount and coolent bottle.
So if the frame are the same on 2008/12 an radiator an clock mount I reckon its a easy job :)
You need to get 2012 bike next to yours N have good look

I have been busy doing some digging in this.

What I have found so far is the following:

The 2012 clocks will fit a 2009 as long as you have the donor loom (The gear indicator will not work)
The 2012 headlights have a different plug to the 2008-11. Not sure if this is part of the same donor loom for the clocks though.

As mentioned, tank, fairings, tail trim, nose cone and in fills are all different.

Bought my 'blade from Hunts and will buy my next bike from them too. :)

    FIREBLADE 1.jpg

If I knew for certain that '11 fairings were interchangeable with later bikes I would upgrade to a '13/'14 year model and swop 'em over 'cos I like the colours of my bike soooo much.;)
