just fitted a mates rear wheel to his bike and could tell by the way previous owner had done a few things something was going to become a problem.and i wasn't long.
went to remove front wheel.....and one of the front axle pinch bolts was rounded off to a near perfect circle!
no chance of getting loose, feels like they've been done to 100nm!

any ideas / solutions to how i/we would go about getting this monstrosity out?

    Thanks

Either hamer a smaller socket over it or.........
For a rounded off cross head screw an elastic band over the cross and you can undo with ease, maybe a similar method could work with a bolt

I must be having a blond moment Martin, can you explain the lacky band trick to me in smaller syllables please. I can’t get my head round what you mean or how it would work.

Is it a button headed allen bolt or a socket cap?

For a socket cap you could try some mole grips.
Or could you carefully dremel in a slot and then use a flat blade screwdriver?

The elastic band may work for that too stimo it's deffinately worth a try

Freedom - when the screw head is all chewed up just lay a piece of the elastic band over the head of the screw then put the screw driver in, the rubber band fills in the gaps and it will undo straight away.
Make sense? It's hard to explain

i guess neither as the whole head of it sinks in flush with the forks so nothing else will grip it will try elastic band trick on it see if that works

I use a torx bit tapped in with a hammer then a quick hit
with an impact driver takes it straight out.

Much as I like this one, you can also get a set of easy outs (They're basically a hardened screw with LH thread. You drill a small hole in the bolt and then screw the easy out into it. Because it's LH thread, it's torquing the bolt in the direction of loosening... Eventually the torque of putting the easy out in, undoes the bolt.

Here's a set on flea bay.

Bet you the threads in the fork bottoms are fucked too.

Why do people think pinch bolts are required to be really tight? The clue's in the title......

theres no reason they should be fucked.

as others state, torx head or cut a slot and use a falt head screw driver.

There's another one to try and get out as well which isn't rounded but boy does it feel fucking tight
    GRRRRRRRRR!

Helps to ease the pain knowing its not my bike but still…:(
