Have been looking at getting some textiles but some of the reviews have been hit and miss need to be warm and waterproof as some state they are but the review says they have leaked I have got about 400 quid, what have you used and are they any good? Is my budget enough ? Cheers
I have only had HG textiles and they kept me warm and dry over 2 years of commuting and still dry after 2 minor offs with them on
RST do some good stuff ,they normally come with protectors in them and are waterproof too. However I'm sure there are more out there & for £400 I'm sure you'll be spoilt for choice
I like Rukka, a bit expensive but excellent IMO. Prices are cheaper if you buy from Germany. These suppliers are trustworthy and good prices - FC-Moto Shop - Nr. 1 in Price for Motorcycle Helmets, Fighter Helmet and Clothes in Europe
Halvarssons gear is what I use, shipmate. If you fancy buying British (companies. Not manufacture) then you can go with Arc-On who are based in Lambeth (cough. Hint) or Wolf in Essex (nice company). And maybe Scott in the North East but I'm not too convinced by their textiles. I reckon I can make a teabag waterproof with the combination of Nikwax Tech Wash then their Wash In. After drying I tosh the suit up with Fabsil Gold. Nothing gets past that lot.
If you want waterproof I'd avoid RST,had 3 of their jackets and heavy rain came through all 3 And I didn't go back twice, they were replaced with promises of this has never happened......gave up in the end and looking myself now
I have two sets of "winter textiles" one HG one Scott, both the higher end stuff. Whilst both have been great over the last four years I'd say the HG kit is warmer. The main thing I'd suggest is make sure the jacket cuffs are wide enough to fit around the outside of your gloves.
cheers fells must admit there are a few names there i haven't heard of but well worth a look do i buy these the same way as leathers? i.e a size smaller so when they give they are not baggy or do they not stretch that much? sorry for all the question but want to get it right the first time cheers
Depends on your riding regime, if you are all year, then you want enough room to layer underneath, if just summer then the liners are more than enough to keep you warm on spring and autumn days. They do not stretch any noticeable amount if you buy decent quality. I note how much you want to spend, so if you can get a set of Rukka even secondhand, you are buying near the top. I use mine 12 months a year, that's a lot of foul weather riding, and get around 10 years use before replacing them. Just clean them a few times a year as Lambeth says in tech wash, then every 3rd time reproof them with the TX direct wash in, advantage is that they dry really fast, so can have them washed and ready to wear same day. I have yet to have a Rukka suit let me down in terms of leaking, must be coming up around 20 years when I first started wearing them I guess. The only complaint I have had with them, is the zip pullers, after a few years the puller breaks off, and its a zip tie for the next few years until you buy a new set.
Have had a set of HG own brand Gortex textiles for 4 and a bit years and they have never let me down, well once I realised that the outer pockets weren't waterproof. I do give them an annual-ish clean/reproof and with Nikwax just to help them along.
It's sounding like my budget is a bit short might just have to leave it for a month or 2 and get a bit more money for something a bit bette as I want to get these and ride a bit more in the not so good weather and a tour or 2 thanks for the replays chaps very helpful
I have Hein Gericke textiles and found them excellent, very warm (esp with the liners in) and also very waterproof. I know you can buy cheaper altho in my experience pay nothing get nothing
I was always wary of buying textile purely for protection compared to leather. Dainese also have a good reputation on their top end jackets, but wasn't as good a fit for me Was pointed towards Rukka and was impressed enough to buy. Rukka do great clothing and I also got their CE2 upgrade armour (only available in Germany atm? ) which is lighter and more flexible than the stock CE armour. They got a bad rep for their zip technology, but it's easy to use. I struggle to know how anyone could have difficulty with it. Comes with a 5 year no questions warranty. If the jacket/trousers need to go back for a repair then they'll give you a replacement jacket/trousers the same until yours is fixed (UK Sales only - not FC-Moto) Infinity Motorcycles have a good range of textiles. Best to go have a look and see what fits and the technology each brand use.
Just to bring this one back into play. My current Rukka suit is the Armadillo, and the black colour has faded in some places to a brownish colour. Turns out its the Gore Coolmax coating is the cause of it. If anyone has this kit and its under 5 years old you can get a free replacement, as long as you have the original purchase receipt. Mine is 7 years old and was purchased in Germany. The dealer there has been great, but cannot get a free replacement due to age, but has offered a new Argo suit half price (which is less than the UK price for the jacket alone) So its in the post. 7 years daily use can't complain really. I have used Biker-land.de several times, as have friends, really good company to deal with.
I put on a rukka jacket the other day,it felt like it was full of sand never felt something soooo heavy!
I have this jacket / trouser combo by 'Wolf'. Very light yet gives a nice feeling of protection. I wore it throughout the winter with a base and technical base layer and have been wearing this last week in mid 20° sun without removing liners. http://www.keewaymotorcycles.com/mo...-All-Season-Waterproof-Motocycle-Jacket-Black I've got the gloves too. But only for winter use.
