Hi guys, Looking at changing my bike to the repsol colour scheme, but want to keep wheels and frame black. Want to get the swing arm done in black too. What's the best route to take for this, Paint it or powder coat it ?? Any info or advice would be appreciated. Cheers
I keep thinking about doing mine, it's just the hassle of taking it off. I'm getting the standard rear sets done black next week hopefully
What's that going to look like with wear and tear martin? Is powder coat tough enough to last, no idea about paint but if its possible I'd love mine done as well.
Powder coat is very hard waring i think it will be fine. I pretty sure that's how the aftermarket rear sets are painted too
You'll be fine with powdercoating. Paint has a tendency to chip which'll leave it looking bad after normal use wear & tear. However, as Martin has said, powdercoating is very hard wearing and it'd take considerable rubbing to wear through that finish. I think most aftermarket rearsets are anodised however, but even this finish is not infallible - it will also wear through over time...
ive had loads of stuff powdercoated in the past and it is tough but anything that bolts up to it can cause it to crack and chip. just wondering how it would look around the chain adjusters after they been moved up.n down a few times.
Black ones on ebay from 40 to 70 . I wouldn't power coat swing arm, if it gets chipped its a big chip as powder is thick. Can't touch it up as good.
I know what your saying but what do they paint the original black swing arms and frames with? Is that not powder coat?

That applies for both powdercoating and anodising. I suspect that the OEM swingarm may be anodised rather than powdercoated though, but I don't agree with your earlier comments about the propensity of powdercoating to chip - from what I've found it's far more likely to wear over time, but so does an anodised finish. Paint is the one that'll chip on you like that!
Something like that martin and powdercoating is sprayed on then oven baked for few hours or over night
Don't think its anodised on the swing arm as I've seen few scratches on friends bikes an its not powder as its very thin coat. Anodising is treating the metal ie ally or steel with electric current then boiling it to seal it.
