Hey guys anyone else interested in getting their ACU Intermediate novice licence?? It gains you access to more trackdays and events each year and of course you could enter a cheeky race or two with it. I've been eyeing up the No limits racing league particularly the 1000cc newcomers. Just think it would be awesome to compete in it and looking at the times there is such a mixed ability it wouldn't be a mountain to climb to be mid placed ACU Licence Test - Clubman A It is 150quid though and its a classroom basic racing multiple choice test and an 1hr riding in track traffic safely
Can I possibly say that when I did my ACU licence, it was merely classroom based. If you hold a DVLA bike licence you only have to do the classroom bit, which is a day at Rugby or most race clubs will run them at the beginning of the season. A word of advice, don't be swayed by the whole 1000cc idea. There are some seriously quick guys in that category and I personally would suggest going for something like formula 600 or pre injection categories and then enter a local club. You would find it far more rewarding and much more enjoyable.
would love to do some racing but not sure if the costs would be acceptable to be honest. I know you don't have to do all of the races but ........
My advice is to see what clubs there are locally to you (the ACU will have a full list on their website) and see what rounds they are doing this year. If you go for a championship, you may have to enter all the rounds and end up travelling across the country to attend their rounds. find out what circuits are near you and see which clubs race there. You can then enter a race with that club and see how it goes. Racing is as expensive as you want to make it. Most entries are about £150 per day, maybe garage hire on top, transponder hire and then the obvious such as tyres, oils, filters, fuel. I have just started out this year and it has been a massively steep (and sadly painful) learning curve. However, it is the best thing I have ever done and I am pretty much living for the next race meet. I have got rid of my road bike and so far haven't missed it at all!
I got my ACU licence in 2005 but never got to the 10 meetings to lose the bib due to a fairly big off and the dangers it presented to my career. Do they expire??
You have I think 2 years to get rid of your novice licence, so you will have to start again sadly. But at least you still have the licence.
over here we have to join a club before we are allowed to buy a license and to get into the club we have to get voted in by two members. I did think of doing it but if I sell the bike(which I would have to do) to fund the racing then when that money runs out and thats me finished racing with no road bike either.unless I get a better job I cant see me doing it anytime soon roll on a small lotto win so I can hit the ulster on a closed circuit lol
