Jimbo - when you say the sportsmarts gave poor millage just how poor are you talking about as i have good sources that tell me you dont hang around. How would you compare the dry grip levels between the sportsmarts and the pr3's
That's interesting as it seems common concensus on another tyre thread that a higher pressure in the front (by 2 PSI or so) is the way to go if Solo riding?
Very comprehensive write-up on the PR3's Jim. It would be interesting to try them but given that I try my very best not to go out in the rain not sure it would make much sense.
michelin say run higher pressure in the front for track riding but to give you an idea they say F30 R27 for power pures but for road they say use F36 R42. so if you think you are getting the speeds and the heat you would on a track then go for the pressure switch but personally I dont and havent had any issues with tyres yet.
I don't go out in the rain either by choice, but sometimes you get caught and sometimes you have no choice in the matter like when on Tour! On my recent Southern Ireland Trip we rode a lot in the rain as we had an Itinarey to keep to, and running on PR3's gave me the confidence on un-familiar roads to make progress without stress. The standard Quali 2's my Blade came with were shyte in the wet and made me feel like I was riding on Diesel on every bend, not sumat you want to endure on a week + Touring Hol, this is why they were fecked off with less than 450 miles on them! The PR3's are a country mile better in the same conditions, that alone is worth it's weight in Gold......................confidence in ya boots is key!
It's not possible to reach the same temperatures on the road as you can on the track unless perhaps you're a TT rider!
I'm not usually hard on tyres though mate, normally get 3/3.5k out of any rear.!? But I did think that, will get it done just in case - although happy with it tbh
About 2.5k mate - new on tour had to change before I got home They take a while longer which could knock confidence but once ready to rock I'd say not a lot at all mate
was getting great mileage on sportmax on the sp1 & 2. up to 8k on the rear and 11 from the front and i dont hang about. least was 4800 but i was burning out all over the place cos i had a new pair waiting. saying that the vee twins are sposed to be a bit easier on the rears than 4's.... i'll find out soon enough lol cant comment on the pr3's as ive yet to try them but i couldnt fault the sportmax wet or dry, and they kept the profile, no flatting off til wire comes thru currently running a set of diablo rossos and theyre bloody awful lol, like riding on half eaten fruit pastilles
If you normally get 2.5-3.5k miles from a tyre, then I'd say there has to be a problem. Either with the tyre itself or something at the rear of the bike. Ie suspension, alignment, bearing, or tyre pressure. That tyre was beyond excessive wear considering.
Think it was just those tyres, never experienced it before and Steve said his pal had similar mileage with the s20??
Read in PB once that tyres actually wear out quicker in the rain ! They are scrabbling for grip and actually spin up slightly hence wear out quicker !
