Talking to a mate today. He went for a run out at the weekend and saw to other riders entering roundabouts using the Rossi 'leg out' braking style.

He said he laughed so hard he nearly totalled his R1 !!!!

Anybody seen this or use this ???

There is no doubt that from anything above 70mph... using your body works very effectively as an air brake much in the same way as the active rear spoilers on the SLR, Hyura and MP12C.

I'll often sit up and use my body when braking from a high speed... I'd not go as far as to stick my leg out for a round about though ;-) at least not unless I was doing 100mph upto it and sliding the rear tyre into the corner like the motogp boys lol

I still question the sanity of it on track - but guess they know best....

as for on the road, what a joke.... but if you feel comfortable (actually, and not just pretending) hey ho... i bet the old boys cracked up when all the youngsters started obsessing about knee down :)

I'm gonna sound a right mupet now but I thought the Moto gp guys did it to adjust for a knee down position lol

I will stop doing it now then (only joking)

i think its to do with balancing the weight under braking. full weight goes in the seat instead of through the footpeg

bugger,i knew there was a flaw in my plan.....

as for the reasoning behind it,well, theres a few different theories behind it.i used to think rossi did it to put other riders off,and have seen it happen a couple of times in MGP.dont think thats the main reason though nowadays.

Simon Crafar gives a good theory behind in his book,i'll try to find a link to it as i cant be arsed to type it out.

Saw it once, but it was a thank you wave rather than cornering style.

Either that or they had the wrong leg out which is worse that doing it in the first place... :)

Did they not do a write up saying that all the bike data said
There was no difference to weight distribution or braking
Force when Rossi did it.so they concluded that he either
Felt more comfortable doing it or it was to put other rider's
    Off.

Personally I think it's dubious to say the least for the track, but to do it on the road is going full pecker-head.
The state of the roads around the midlands area, I'd rather have both feet well and truly planted on the pegs.

I have lifted my foot off the peg but that's the outside
    Peg when cornering.

that was from a pre race interveiw that rossi gave, which as you say gave no difference in time even though the rest of the brake, speed data was the same.however,i think he might have said it just to stop people asking as it gets asked every time.as we all know, rossi has a lot of rituals, and it was whilst doing this leg wave that he stuffed gibernau at jerez, which eventually won him the championship it then started to creep into his style after that.

i''d say the best person to ask is crutchlow as he seems to do it more than anybody else at the moment.
