Just want a bit of advice about my rear tyre. it is very badly worn in the middle near enough to the point of it becoming a slick but i was just wondering if i had the bike booked in for new tyres and got pulled on the way to the bike shop what would happen ?

Would pc plod get me go if i can prove that i am on my way to the tyre shop or will i get points and a fine ?

Maybe an emailed confirmation of an appointment that you could show on your phone?

Illegal no question ,points and a fine not worth the risk take the wheels off its not a big job .

Can you imagine if pc plod let you carry on then you had an off.

This would work without an mot as long as you were on your way to a mot station and you had an appointment .

Guess you will have to risk it the chances of getting stopped are slim, I have never been stopped on a bike in all the years I have been riding .

I've been stopped exactly once in 5 years... For riding through the bicycle lane at Admiralty arch... Got a lecture, didn't even have to show my road tax (that states Bicycle - in my backpack, not even attached). Said no worries and on my way.

If you come off though, it's a different story...

stepladders and a ratchet strap ftw ;)

i realised i was paying 160 - 200 a year getting tyres fitted and balanced so instead i made a bead breaker at work and a balancer out of unistrut.
    now self sufficient :)

im on the mark4 version now made from 1" stainless tube - works ace.

and the diy wheel balancer with spindle and cones for £15 off the bay and unistrut frame from work

if anyone's in the warrington area & is stuck for tyre fitting feel free to give us a knock - you know what it's like, it's always saturday afternoon or sunday when you realise you need to change a tyre :)

btw have you seen the cable tie method????? awesome - took me 20 mins to do mine first time
this is in the back of my van, no tools rqd

pops off (and on) so easy it's unreal!

It begs the question......................... WHY ?

Me personally, I'd rather be riding or chillin with the family or mates than feckin about doing that, that's what Tyre fitters are for!

Fair doo's if you have plenty of spare time but for me my life depends on those hoops of rubber so a Pro fitment it will stay all day long. :D

lolz!!! cos as said, it always ends up saturday / sunday, i wheel the bike out and notice wool hangin out the tyre lol.

also, getting tyres for next to fk all, sort of makes it pointless when ive then got to pay through the nose to have them fitted.
(i used to use TST btw, who are spot on and have never marked my rims)

im one of them people (tight arse!) who wont pay anyone to do anything... all i used to pay for is tyres and MOT.
    now its just MOT!
spose it depends how many miles you do though... if you only do 2500 a year then fair enough, but like this week ive done 600 mile in 2 days, average 1000+ a mth in summer so it gets a bit expensive on tyres

No but it did become illegal in 1 day with a spirited ride up to hartside cafe and back. Hope the new sportsmarts last a little longer
