Did a bit of this today, already done MC1 a few months ago i2i Motorcycle Academy : Off-Road Great day out, never come off a bike until today, and came off a KTM450 3 times, putting it sideways around big dust banks. Day started with a few circuits, to which I got quicker and quicker and then dropped it. We then did a few confidence bits riding over ruts etc with no hands to show how stable the bike was. We then learnt the correct way to ride stood up and then jumps This then followed with full blasts around the field following a dust trail much to everyone's enjoyment and this was my second drop of the day trying to switch mid corner over a pile of sandy dust to the outer lane. We then did something very surreal, moving your riding position to the rear of bike, locking the front brake and making the rear wheel push the locked frt wheel up the course, and then put all the weight over the front wheel and made the rear wheel spin up whilst always keeping the bike under control and highlighting the change in braking characteristic depending on where you sit. To finish the day they showed us a bit of the advanced course where we did some tighter control work and dropping over a steep decline, for some stupid reason I grabbed a handful of front brake and flew straight over the bars. Nothing hurt, all the gear and bike supplied, a great day and probably my over-confidence lowered, but ability increased Fully recommended, a great teacher in Tom, and will be back for MC3 and knee down in coming months
I am wait listed for the Knee Down course but its fully sold out this year. Would be good to see if they would run an extra course for a private group as sure we could get a few from here to sign up to it.
Not on the 29th June anymore as I'm booked on! For what I've spent on trackdays trying this it will be money well spent - although I can see me needing refresher courses to nail it / change riding style for good / the better!
Dammit been wanting to do that for ages and now they have a space I find out it's nearly £200 Guess my sliders will be pristine for another year.
Yep, it's not cheap but less than a trackday, much less than Ron Haslam, CSS etc. Know it's different to those ans you are on your own bike - will give verdict / shots of pre/post sliders.
Hey mate, I used to look at the KD courses too. I am sure they can be very helpful in terms of body position etc. and how to use the position comfortably. But I really would suggest doing a trackday instead, KD will just happen on track without you even really trying. Then you can tune your body position throughout the day, I'm still miles of perfect, but am pretty proud that it happened progressively and I managed to do it all on my tod. Just a thought. Cheers
Y.T. Done loads of trackdays and ride like a copper and knee has only once or twice graced the tarmac. Using this day as a training day in body positioning. I got my can down at Donny was getting bike over not an issue but getting the can down meant I was way too far over / near disaster for comfort!
Yeah I understand mate wasn't sure if you'd tried on track that's all. If you do the school do a write up on here! I'm sure there is many a member on here who have wanted some KD action for years and would follow suit..
