04RR, Looks like the pertol cap seal has passed its best, Just washed the bike and lifted the petrol cap to notice soapy water in the top of the tank sloshing around in the overflow area, it's probably dripped into the tank too so I hope it doesn't cause much of an issue. I'm hoping it will just flush through eventually. Where's the best place to get a new seal from? In the meantime I'm going to grease the seal incase I get caught in any rain, what's the best stuff to use silicone grease?

Thanks Kentblade. I was trying to remember the name of the parts company, but it's lings. I've bookmarked it now. On further inspection I don't think the seal has gone, inside the petrol tank there is a lip that i guess captures condenastion and it drips down an overflow, the seal around the plastic tank cover has a tiny hole to allow water to run into the overflow area inside the tank so I guess everything is as normal?
Bandit, I guess the seal would either be perished or very lipped to allow water ingress, also if thats the case, you should smell constant petrol vapour getting back out. The area around the filler neck must get water into it when it rains or the bike is washed, carefully squirt some water into the overflow pipe(use a small syringe) and make sure it drains out under the bike and is not blocked with sludge.
It's in good condition and I can't smell any petrol fumes, I've just greased it up as a precaution. It looks like the seal is fine. I thought the overflow around the filler neck was for petrol but evidently it's not, it's for water to drain away, however mine is blocked. I can get a rod down there about 30cm then I feel resistance so I'll get an air line on it soon and blow all the shite out.
There are connectors on the run, they maybe the restriction, check the outlet hose, it can be as simple as some fling off the chain clinging to it, also you can back rod it from there
I probably kinked the hose or blocked it somehow when I installed mt PC5 last year. I'll whip the tank off soon and take a better look. Cheers for your help.
Yep agreed Phantom, just picked up complete brand new can and cover and rear shock for £120. Tucked away for spares.
It was indeed as predicted. Overflow pipe was linked under the petrol tank, just lifted the tank and a load of dirty water poured out from it. All sorted now. Thanks again.
