The GH2 (and newer models) are a compromise against a full-sized DSLR as I wanted something less bulky to take on trips as packing for 2 for a 2-week trip in a single Ventura is a challenge! But it's a very good camera for my n00bie needs, and takes good 1080p videos as well.

The TZ models are also blinding. Had one before the step up to the GH2 and was one of the best cameras out there at the time. Think they've got even better since, too.

Yeah been looking at doing the motorail for a few years now but never managed to work it in with our route or schedule. It's such a shame the French one from Calais to Avignon was cancelled and the Autoslaap routes reduced in recent years as they would have been ideal, but the Livorno service would fit in nicely so I think that's going to be a winner for next year.

May also fit in Brno but possibly as a flyaway than a roadtrip.

Moily, cheers for that mate. Great detail in that write up and the shots are spot on, that Lumix has done you proud. I'd be chuffed with any one of those pictures.

Cheers, although I sadly can't take credit for them as the camera was left on 'iA' mode for all those shots.

When I can get taking a manual shot down to seconds rather than minutes then I'll venture to take more shots with iA off!

Most of the Mugello shots that were taken with the GH2 were done with the 14-140 lens at 140 or near-as, which it coped pretty well with, I thought (to my untrained eye). And I must admit that the iPhone has excelled itself with some of the shots it's taken.

Don't tempt me to climb onto one of my many soapboxes mate. There is, as is plain in the pictures, sod all wrong with letting the tech do it's magic. Of course there's a valid argument for manual over ride for any system but with matrix metering as good as it now is, the argument is less every day.

True, and working in tech I'm all for it, but as we 'Bladers know ourselves - there's more fun to be had with you controlling the beast than relying on electronics (i.e TC) to help us along!

*Addendum* - just realised that on my neglected Picasa site I've also got the pics from our roadtrip to Misano back in '11, if anyone's interested in seeing yet more roadtrip pics...

IMO MSM has been spoilt, don't get me wrong it is definitely an attraction, but since the put the raised causeway in it has lost a bit of its appeal. Bowing down to tourism. Sad really.

    Great trip report

Yeah I originally thought it wasn't reachable by road as I thought it was a tidal cobbled walkway to get up to it. I now realise on Streetview there's a carpark right next to it!

We rocked up and followed signs to the newly-built Visitors Centre which was still some way away (where the photo was taken from) but they wanted money just to park in the middle of nowhere (!) so we ditched that and went to a roadside cafe nearby for a drink and chill in the hot sun before continuing down to La Rochelle.
