Well this month was a choice between some mods for the bike or height adjustable suspension for my new car .

I went with the coilovers for the car and decided to fit them my self . Never had a go at this on a car before so found a how to guide and got stuck in .

Why i though i could accomplish this task i dint know . Long story short I got the front right strut off , let the hub fall back and pul the drive shaft out dumping a load of gearbox oil on the floor.

Coiuldnt get the new shock to slot in so i have ended up with thew original back on with a now dry gear box .

What a pain in the arse man.. My mate just said he wil fit them after hours at the garage where he works for 20 quid a corner . He said ge could have done it after 12.00 today . Bugger ..

    Off to sulk now

Car jobs always turn into a DIY nightmare, Its always that bolt you just cant shift or some other minor problem which means you cant finish the job. I always give it to the garage now.

Also once you have the coilovers fitted you still need to get it 4 wheel aligned, so may as well let them fit it all and sort the align out as well.

Hope you get it all sorted out mate..

I spend cash on the bike now and most jobs are easy enough to do yourself :)

I have a pet mechanic and the calm blasé way he strips and rebuilds my cars is all the proof I need that its harder than it looks.

I much prefer working on cars, i used to rebuild engines as a hobby, pistons in the sink etc.... misses used to go spastic lol.

Bikes, i wouldn't touch, if one wheel goes on a car, i'm ok, if one wheel goes on a bike, i'm fooked lol.

Is It a sign that you're getting old when you look under the bonnet of a car and don't recognise anything?

I uprated the suspension on a MK2 golf gti years ago, it took me all day but I did manage it (way before the time of coilovers).
Many skinned knuckles, I thought fuck it that was the last bigish job I tried.
I still do servicing and brakes but thats about as far as I go.

Was called out by a club member when his oil pressure light stayed on. The engine sounded sweet after much head scratching decide to have a look at the oil pressure release valve located in the sump. The sump pan would not part company from the crankcase which was odd eventually looked inside the entire sump pan was covered with sugar (about three packets). The owner then revealed he had fallen out with his girlfriend and she was capable the punch line had me in stitches her name was Candy. This is factual and not BS guys.

Jay had two options split the crankcase and see what damage was done to the journals and bearings or use several cans of carb cleaner to dislodge any sugar granules with some flushing oil. Sugar in the sump pan disloved under the hot water tap. He rode the bike for a further two years and then disappeared off the scene.

Most people would bite the bullet and strip the engine down, but people with the nerve to attempt to flush the sugar out, well..........dem are rarer.
