I sometimes wonder, if you could block out the pain, what a rush all the other symptoms would be to to experience...

Never had one myself, but my brother has them often. Apparently, the symptoms sound pretty familiar to ketamine, and allegedly, slightly like some of the effects of acid. Probably somewhere between the two. Not that I'd know about that stuff, I just, ah, read lots. Supposedly.

No Martin, just coming down off one. The routine is always the same, blood rushing through my head so hard I can hear it, metallic taste in my mouth, real hypersensitivity to noise and a definite sensation that gravity has been reduced. Unfortunately, all this is followed by a red hot ice pick across the back of my eyes. This bit lasts a few hours then retreats giggling at my discomfort behind its rock for a few hours more then it'll run out again just to fuck me up again and repeat the process for another day or so. After that it buggers off in a flash and leaves me feeling like I've been drinking too much coffee for another day.

If it wasn't for the ice pick bit, it'd be quite like a synthetic acid trip.

Thankfully, Martin not so much these days. Once upon a time it was a couple of times a week but we realised that my main 'trigger' was hydration, or the lack of it. I force myself to rehydrate on a boringly regular basis during the day and its dried the episodes up almost completely. Every now and then, one creeps around the edges and gives me a kicking, like the one last night, but the onset is so predictable now, it usually gives me time to get myself in my purple patch and shout 'bring it!' From start to finish, the whole cycle will last about 3 days with the actual painful part being the middle day. Annadin used to be my weapon of choice but it started to give me bad acid reflux. Cocodamol is now what I use to take the edge off it. My GP's sole input was 'Yes, that sounds like a migraine alright, take two paracetamol every 4 hours until it goes. Paracetamol? May as well take M&M's.

Certain thought processes get fecked up during too. As I'm typing this, the spell checker is having a shit fit drawing red lines under the text. That's really not me.

Oh well, I'm now going to spend the day training somebody who's just confessed to me that she is dyslexic, in the most complex print system we sell. That'll help...

I feel for you Ken .... suffer myself but yours sound very different to mine! Parecetamol wouldn't touch a very mild slight headache - no chance with a migraine !!
If I feel one coming on then I try and take Nurofen (white round) I don't know if its psycological but they tend to work for me with normal headaches, if i'm to late then it's out with the migraleave (red & yellows) if that don't work then I have injections but it has to be a serious one for that.
Light sensitive, impared speech, impared vision, pins & needles face, hands & arm, then as that lot subsides it feels like someones trying to take my eyes out with a spoon! Never been nauseus though. Had them all my life but thankfully not as much these days.... a couple a year probably on average.
Still havn't got a feckin clue wot causes them so I reckon it must me a complex mix of things - foods, stress etc etc

I consider myself lucky. A, that I've managed to get some control over it and B, when I get one, its nowhere near as bad as some sufferers I know. I admit to a sick fascination with the mechanics of the aura and how it effects each sufferer differently.

No, Rich, no flashing lights, those are for nut jobs.

I always had suspicions about myself.

    Who said that?

Lewis suffers from migraines and they get really bad but we found something that seems to help a lot. He take naproxen (along with paracetamol) The naproxen seems to work. You can get it on prescription but the easiest way to get it (don't laugh) is Feminax over the counter. The one from the shop floor doesnt have naproxen in it. You have to ask for it (blue box), take 2 tabs. :)

It won't make me more girly than I already am, will it, Mel. I'm already growing moobs, and watched the rugby yesterday while doing the ironing. It's not a huge leap of imagination from Lions v Wallabies to Jeremy Kyle, the Aussies had three stretchered off as it was.
