Si you will have to replace the inner metal casing that has the thread the bar end screws into. I think they were about 30quid when I snapped mine and had to replace it. You pull it out with some long nose pliers I believe

Just a note on what happened and the road conditions .This was the very bottom of The Horse shoe pass Llangollen end .We had previously been to Betsy e coed and had a good couple of hours of fun .Tyres were warm and the roads in general only had the odd damp patch .when we got to the bottom of the pass there are a couple of tight but slow bends uphill these had some new applied black hard looking shell grip type material we got around the first but ok and it was grippy we then went up a length of road and then onto the next right hander again uphill and perhaps about 30 / 40 mph tops I was directly behind Si and as we where in the middle of the bend his front tucked quite violently just like you see in the Gp when they hit the brakes on a bend both Si and the bike slid along the road and into and up a small grass bank.At first inspection of the road it looked perfect with just a little bit of loose shell grip which was mainly at the road edge and as we were not speeding " not even possible" in this situation and conditions were very good there did not see any reason for this ,but I found at the end of the skid marks a strip of what appeared to be thick " duct tape " about 250 mm long which had a coating of the shell grip on the top side .in my opinion this length of tape must have been on the road and then shell- gripped over and it looks just real back luck that the line Si took caused his front wheel to go over it causing delamination and in this situation would have been similar to hitting diesel with the front tyre .I must say the dude took it pretty well considering that the bike is a minter but it looks like he may have sourced a few goodies already . Otherwise we had a top day and would love to have a second helping .What have we learnt ? Absolutely jack shit as about 99 % of the roads I have been on this year have mainly had a sprinkling of shit or grit where this was mint so you just can't win .
I've seen them use this tape when they lay this shit. Covering drain covers and such to stop them getting gakked up with it, but its supposed to be removed once they pass by, isn't it?
Really sorry to hear that, Si, but as others have said the bike can be rebuilt and be good as new. Hopefully your arm won't be too bad either. Your off is almost a carbon copy of mine on the 'Ring, and I see you have ASVs fitted which I had fitted to mine the week before my mishap - and what a decision that was! Mine looked exactly like yours and although I can't be sure the stock ones would have bent or snapped off, I'm glad I didn't have to find out and could still ride it afterwards.

Just read this, gutted for you Si, but main thing is you walked away. Giv, did you get photos of the tape with the application over it, if the accident is due to a defective repair, which this sounds like, then all damages should be reported to the local authority responsible for the road and I'd be looking at one of the specialist lawyer firms like Andrew Dalton etc to make a claim for all your expenses against them. They need to bloody learn that they can't leave roads in a hazardous state. I claimed against Leeds CC years ago for damage to my Fazer, took three years for the briefs to sort it, but I got my bloody money back.
Thanks for the advice Pete .Yes we did briefly discuss this but looking at the situation there was no evidence that the tape was stuck to the road as there was no " bald patch " from delamination I think the road had been coated and then this tape was then coated over causing the slip effect but looking at it from a claim pov you have perfect conditions the bike goes down and you have a piece of tape with a coating of shell grip in your hand I think the major efforts needed to even start a claim would be futile and this was the outcome of our brief roadside chat. Prior to this and on some fantastic roads it wasn't unusual to round a bend on line only to find the dreaded damp patch right under the front tyre ,you weigh this up with milli seconds of thought and I don't know about you lot but ,I sometimes think " that was lucky " it could have ended in tears .
