Yo everyone I've been doing a fair bit of commuting on my blade recently and my rear tyre has become a bit flatted in the middle, its a roadsmart 2 with about 3mm tread at its lowest in the centre still plenty to go and I have a trip to scotland next weekend. we have enough time to take mostly twisty roads up there and you guys all know what its like once your there so just wondering if there's any way to put a curve back on them other than riding round a roundabout all day lol. when turning in it tips quite aggresively due to the flat spot rather than rolling on the angle like it should. any ideas?? cheers
No its well dusted Tyke .Time for a new one and you will defiantly feel the difference and if you run your hand over the front you may also feel that it is " stepped" although it looks good .Always gets me where you can get a set of 4 fitted to a small car inc balancing and a cup of coffee and yet you can just about get a pair for a pair for a bike .
Yeah it will start to feel worse bud it will get a edge where you feel it drops into corners unsettling bike , make you realise how much when you stick the new one on
Yeah it calls for a newin am afraid mate I'm gettin a new sportsmart fitted tomorrow I was gonna leave it till Aug after my hols but I got it last week from MyTyres website at a great price and I'm glad I did as the rear let go for the first time yesterday, violently without warning! so you never know with the power we have with the Blade when it'll catch you out! IMO tyres are the most important part on the bike that what keeps us on it and pointing in the right direction and are not worth skimping on I would definitely change before comin up here safest option dude
last b/stone I used was them was way back when the latest was the BT56, they were the worst tyre back then for squaring off.I havent really seen many tyres square off that badly now.
Just reading the July edition of Performance Bikes and there is a section of best road tyre "yes I know yawn" but has to be done I suppose and done on a road test .Avon super Maxx Sport 6/10 ...Avon 3D Ultra Supersport 7/10...Continental Sport Attack 2... 7.5/10 ...Michelin Pilot Power 3 ..8/10 ..Dunlop Sportsmarts ..8.5 /10 ...Bridgestone S20 ..8.5 /10 ..Pirelli Super Corsa 9/10 and the winner and old SI's favourite rubber Metzeler Sporttec M5 9.5/10 .find out next month how they perform on track pop pickers.
how the hell did they rate super corsa that high, I found them downright dangerous when it was cold or wet roads, tried them and even the corsa pro's and each time regretted getting them.
maybe im just being picky cos its not tooooo bad, but i can feel a difference, what you guys think? heres a pic, need 1500 miles out of it
not that bad, are you tracking that bike or what pressure are you running that on. just looking at the excess rubber on the edges
was wondering, only time I seen a tyre do that on a road was when the wrong pressure was being used.I always refer to this handy guide Motorcycle Tyre Wear Guide - The different types and what causes them
yeah, so with my OP do you reckon I can get them rounded back off again with some twisties and will they last 1500miles?? I know its hard to tell but I don't weigh much and I stick luggage on my dads bike, id say I do ride quite fast, about 2-3 mm of tread left. obviously would rather have more money for fuel/beer etc. than a new back tyre
yeah ride on, wont be long rounding off if you have a few mm left.I thought it was near down to the wire in the OP. good hot day an thrash it round the twisties will sort it, had the same problem when I went to france, 400 miles of motorways squared it off but it soon sorted itself out again......in time for the motorway run home
yeah cool, I have about 4 sets of "old" tires in my garage that I've always changed cos I thought they were too low, then I've seen other people do a full trip on the same sort of tread and come back with some spare, gonna risk it I think. cheers phantom
I Emailed the twats when I first read it they put 36f/36r in the tyres then said Sportsmart was I bit unstable! NOT!!! I just dismissed the test! As different tyres are pressure sensitive and it isn't the first time last years performance figures for the 2012 Blade was a bit of a Joke( 0-60 = 4'n'1/2 secs) & 0-100 almost 7sec then a few pages later they had a cbr600rr with better acceleration times! so take what you read with a sack o salt
