    Not really!

You still have to declare any Accidents or Claims on a new proposal thus ensuring you baseline price is hiked over a Non Claimed Customer.

The fact you then 'theoretically' get applied your '5 years NCB' doesn't make a lot of diff to the final cost.

They aint stooopid ya knows!

The original quote you got on that kind of bike with no recent experience i would say was fair, the problem with MCE and other '' suspect '' insurers is that should you ever have to claim.... watch out and good luck, you may pay peanuts but should the accident be bad then you may just lose your shiny new bike for good when they find some reason not to pay. Insurance is not different from tv's and cars, you get what you pay for.

I am in a similar situation, and am finding the quotes are changing by the hour - and not for the better :-(

Just starting the annual quote merry go round, hate this process.

Whilst having protected NCB, having a bike stolen last year, not recovered, doubled my premium, and also put 25% on my car premium, so they have got us by the danglees.

Got the brand new bike last week and the best priced policy I got was MCE at £248.
Excess was a little high, but that also included personal injury and helmet & leathers.
The previous year, on an older bike with one year less on NCB was £345.

Try not to get it nicked.... it was a total ball ache to claim from them and took a fair while to pay out also!

Totally agree, protecting your no claims bonus is an absolute waste of time.

I had a car stolen many years ago and had protected my no claims bonus, they paid out a nominal fee for the car (less than £500) then they doubled my policy to over a grand! When I complained that I had protected my NCD they said we can still charge you whatever we want. I went elsewhere but after declaring the claim the policy was still considerably more. It's nothing more than an insurance scam and they make a lot of money from it. I've since made friends with an insurance broker and he tells me not to bother.
