A mate of mine has been running in his brand new, main dealer, supplied blade. It's black but when he picked up a couple of stone chips he noticed that the colour underneath was red. Checking out the reverse side of the panel it's red. Nose cone is the same, but remaining panels on the bike are black right thru. So is this something that anyone else has seen? Have they simply painted a batch of red panels black due to shortages or is it possible this brand new bike has some history?
Hey, not seen that myself on a black blade mate any i have had close inspection on were black paint on black plastic panels, unless it was a damaged repaired panels fitted after an accident or similar. Was it a proper brand new bike or a pre reg bike that coulda been lying about the yard n got damaged at some point? Has the inside of the nose been painted black also? Miby best quiz the selling dealer about it and see what they say?
Some paints have a to have a base colour which they spray under the final colour to get the final finish they are looking for, however this doesn't explain the faring not being the same. Or Could it of been the model that was red and black but the owner just decided he preffered all black and sprayed it
My bet is it was a pre reg bike that was a colour that didn't sell well so they have sprayed it. I'd be proper hacked off if that was the case for me and they didn't tell me. Get him to check the logbook and see what that says. Think it happens a lot with the specials, they will spray up bikes like the orange and silver which wasn't popular (or repsols ) to try and get them out the door! MrB will be able to help no doubt....
Nope, black bikes have a red primer underneath... It's normal. if its red on the underside ... I.e all red gloss, it's been re sprayed.
