I don't know if I am really unlucky or what but this is my 4th puncture that I have had this year!! All have been rear tyres with a screw in. This is really getting me down as I have bought new tyres every time and it is costing me a fortune I can tell you.:( I suppose it is my fault for overtaking cars on the central reservation where most of the road crap ends up!! To top it all I have 4 last year also on the rears. Tyres are getting really expensive now and I have spent more on rear tyres than shodding my family saloon in the last two years?

I thought the council have a legal responsibility of keeping the highways safe from debris so this surely should mean all of the road, and I cannot tell you when I last saw a roadsweeper cleaning the central areas???
Perhaps a letter to my local MP might be a reasonable request about this condition?

Is anyone else affected by this debris or just me?

You answered your own question Peter riding in the central reservation is a big no no for me purely down to debris. We call it no mans land from punctures to holed radiators seen it all.

Yeah, Central Reservation is a No No for me, I'd rather wait than use that.

Unless the tyre is on its last legs, then save money and plug them, have had up to 3 in at any time, just had a second one put in today, can't be ar**ed with all that expense with the amount I pick up commuting.

They can be safely mushroom plugged ( with speed rating upto 160 ) so long as its in the central band, or do you just prefer to not ride on a plugged tyre. ?? I've had a few plugged over the years and never had any issues, even did a track day with one.

I get the internal patch that has the built in plug.
I was getting a load of nails at one stage too then
Someone spotted an old bloke throwing down nails
Where the bikes all hang out.

I picked up two punctures on my rear on Sunday just out of Bala. I got home OK with an emergency repair kit. When I spoke to the local Honda dealer, who is by far the cheapest for tyres round here, he said they do not repair tyres any longer.

Is this just a ploy to sell a new tyre or are repairs a no no given the stick they get? Both my punctures are well into the middle of the tyre no where near the side walls.

Maybe that they are now Not authorised by Michelin or who ever or maybe got a case of insurance jitters .there will be others who would fix no doubt .

never had an issue with a patch or personally known anyone who has.
If anyone has these punctures near the middle and want to bin their
tyre let me know and I will pay the postage to take it off your hands [IMG]

My rear has only got 825 miles on it since fitted at the last service - pity you're not closer Phantom. I must admit I exceeded the recommended speed on the emergency repairs by about 300% (red mist set in Fireblade V Z1000 on way home) and it felt safe enough so I assume a mushroom repair would be fine. I don't think the tyre would ever fail in the way they did in F1 at the weekend.

I was told by my tyre supplier that only Michelin will authorise repairs on Z rated tyres. No other manufacturer

I agree with all those who said plugs are fine. I've rarely ever had a tyre that wasn't plugged (central reservation + central London..) and I've never had an issue with one nor heard of anyone having an issue with one. I certainly wouldn't dream of splashing out the price of a new rear every time this happened to me!

I've luckily not had a puncture so far (touches wood) and avoid the debris littered areas religiously. I was stopped on the M11 for a good hour the other day and had a good look, there is every kinda sharp item you could imagine littered on the outside of the lanes. Its a gamble really I think ;)
