Got back from my scotland tour today.. very tired went to bed. woken up about 45 mins ago to hear two chavs trying to force my garage door open. shouted and banged on the window and proceeded to run after them in my glory with the closest weapon to hand (a hi-hat stand). We live in a very nice area away from view of the street. the garage door is an automatic jobby and quite secure. only thing that worries me is i have the blade and trackbike in there and the latter is not insured (cant get it under house ins cos its a vehicle and cant get bike insurance without putting it on the road) What has the world come to? Hate the bastards. any ideas of extra security are very welcome and any stories of similar scenarious from yourselves. Police have a full statement bla bla bla like that will make any difference. Ive put it on facebook so all my mates are aware to lock their garages!!
glad you got to them before they got into thegarage. there are places that wil insure track only bikes, will try to find the link, but think it might be 4counties.
Not a nice welcome back young Tyke. The main thing is, they didn't get in. Security wise, a locks only as strong as much as the scum trying to get in is determined. A word from the wise, and I don't want you taking this the wrong way now, but you know some of the best security? Keeping your info off the Internet mate. Seriously. You don't know who's reading what, for example, you post on FB or public forums etc whoohoo off to Scotland/where ever and Bang, the information and is out there for the world to see. Insurance companies so I have heard so don't go quoting me on this, actively seek out people who make claims for theft etc to see if they have posted any information about them leaving their premises unattended for holidays etc And you know what. I hear they don't pay out if it's seen to be the case Best you can do? Alarm for the garage. One of them PIR jobs, perhaps a cheap CCTV on view is a good deterrent too. And get the bikes bolted to the floor/wall ceiling if you have to But with all the above mentioned, they got away perhaps lucky for them? As you say. Hatefull bastards, of the highest order. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...monitor-Facebook-Twitter-youre-away-home.html
Can you leave the garage from a side door or only the main door? If you can the put some locks through the garage door tracks so it cannot be opened / pulled up. As others say battery powered alarm. I am looking to put a hd CCTV round my house as you never know what goes on buy big locks just as good.
Feel the pain Tyke, been there. Only thing I do is park the motor in front of the door, not perfect and obviously it ain't there all the time, never leave the door open when I am working on the drive, all small stuff and probably just satisfying my mind really.. TBH security light/CCTV don't deter them, even had the local travelling community sniffing around the Porker and Audi in broad daylight a few weeks back, they got quite tetchy when they were photographed, the 4 x 4 proved to be on false plates as expected, this was after 2 nights of them turning up in Transits at 1 in the morning and casing them out, the Old Bill arrived both times within 10 mins, admitted they were chasing them all over the area. Luckily its gone away for a while, but they always come back. But as they said in the film 'They don't like dawgs' A couple of big black and tan killers keeps them at bay. Downside of living in a quiet rural area I guess.
Unless they've actually targeted your bikes, in which case it might be difficult to deter them, the best method, sadly, is to make it more of a faff to break into your garage than it is your neighbour's. Big, clunky, but overall, visible deterrents will cause opportunists to glance then move on. Door spikes, CCTV, lit alarm boxes., are all things that make the urban toe jam pick on someone else, Tyke.
Cheeky f!ckers I also live somewhere quite rural and also have a couple of meat loving land sharks. Almax immobiliser IV lock and padlock is a very very good way to secure your bike to a ground anchor. I'm getting a specially made "shed" built with all kinds of hidden extras. What Gary is saying; is totally correct about minimising the amount of information you put "out there". Also be aware of vehicles around you, if it looks like or you feel like you or bring followed, don't go to your home. Either do something called "boxing"; basically for example you think you are being followed do a few right or left hand turns ans see if they follow you. If they do I'd ride straight to the nearest nick or to a pub where all your mates are lmfao. Just a few tips mucker. Get a garage door defender that you boot to the concrete inside your garage, that would make it harder for them to get in and when chaining you bike up try and make sure the chain is tight'ish and not resting on the ground. Makes it harder for them to get purchase on it if they are trying to grind it etc etc etc etc !!!! Hope that helps.
The bike is locked and alarmed, parked like this... The car is locked and alarmed. The garage door is steel and has double bolts on the inside. Jeanette's car is locked and alarmed and parked arse end on to the garage door. Our neighbours are all retired so there is usually somebody twitching curtains all day. It's still not enough to deter someone who really wants a bit of Ken memorabilia to take away, but it should be enough to make the chancers to move on. And of course, anybody who does hang around too long has to contend with him...
i am going to fit on of these ..... Poacher Alarm Gun (Use 12 Bore Blank Cartridge AM201 pack of 20) - Game Bags & Accessories - Shooting - William Powell Ltd
+1 I was going to suggest an Alarm Mine. Just be aware though that the thieving scum may try and sue you if you damage their hearing.
I like these. I'd prefer the real thing but hey, just a question for anyone. Would forensics be able to get any DNA off the big pile of shit left on the driveway
Thanks for advise guys. the two scrots didnt look old enough to ride a proper bike so i guess they were just after the push bikes. id be.amazed if they knew how to ride a fireblade or trackbike without either a: getting cought or b: finding a hedge. Gonna install ground anchor for bikes. Security light and garage alarm. still a bit goosed for the track bike insurance??
Mate of mine uses a home made version on his allotment....... recent attempt by gippos meant them shitting themselves and dropping all the items nicked from the other sheds on the same night !
Rural crime is rife. We have a gravel drive, electric gates etc & pikies recently nicked my wifey's cat converter from her 4 x 4. Other people have had heating oil nicked as well.
A ground anchor and an Almax chain is a good idea, Tyke. Just make it as difficult for them to nick as possible. If you're forcing them to have to start using grinders then you've really done all you can.
