I was just sat at my desk watching the world go by out the window when a red blade 08-11 model hit the gas and flew up the road, however with tee shirt shorts and trainers! For pitty sake what is it with the younger generation??

    Crazy

Oh I suspect it is Simon. The right to choose fraternity will be sharpening their 'why oh why' pencils all around the world if you say something like that.

A guy on a big moped passed me on the motorway doing almost 100mph with shorts, a vest and flip flops!!!

I came along side him in traffic and pointed at my full leathers and boots and just shook my head at him in disbelief. I don't even want to begin to imagine the injuries he would suffer coming off at that speed....

I personally think if they can make it law to ware a seat belt in a car then it should be to ware leathers, but while its not a law we can't really have ago as its a choice they have the right to make

I read somewhere, on some thing about some statistics that reckoned at 30 mph, on Tarmac, about 20mm (I don't work in cm as I think they're dangerous) of flesh per metre.

Or maybe not. I may have dreamt it. It would have to be a dream as why would I make something like that up!?!

And anyway, wouldn't it depend on weight or whether anything was on top of you, pushing you down like on a cheese grater?

So it may not be true, or at least accurate, but....it would bloody hurt and, the overall effect may well be like the figure above.

    Or not..

So what your saying is at 30mph you would have a graze where I would loose my arms and legs

it's not the crash that would hurt... its how they get the gravel out the wounds! it's the last place you'd want a nail brush round... and the nurses are not usually that sympathetic

might pop to shops in jeans and hoody, but not often, wore shorts about a mile to town on tour, but if im on a ride out, full leathers, always.

think they are bonkers tbh, but up to them.

I've had the nail brush. On a broken shoulder too. The girls of the NHS really didn't like bikers back then.

Martin, have you been drinking? What I said, didn't make sense to me and you're trying to work it out...

Leathers are classed a "luxury" and as such we have to pay 20% tax on them as we'll as on boots and gloves, Helmets however are mandatory therefor tax free, I wonder which is more cost effective, charging tax or repairing gravel rash on the No Hope System, I mean NHS, it's likely the loss adjusters have been involved, and that's why it's not compulsory to wear any other protection than a helmet.

Me ? If I'm on the bike so's all the kit, however short the journey.

I was doing 38mph in shorts and T-shirt yesterday, what would happen if I fell off?
p.s. I was on a bicycle an sure as hell not wearing a leather babygrow on it lol.
I believe its more the sudden stops that do more damage,I had a high speed off
in jeans and a bomber jacket, just one small bit of road rash
    on my wrist.

Then you were damm lucky, sliding down chipped roads in jeans at high speed would give you more than a little road rash, but you will always find someone who got away with it just like seat belts, there is always an exception to the rule, but believe me you don't want to rely purely on luck ;-)

I dont, that was my only high speed one.of all my crashes only once was I
wearing leathers.I tend to only wear them heading out for a good run, for the
shop run I just wear jeans.have had six bike accidents so far in my lifetime and
nothing more than 4" bit of road rash but I still believe its the way you fall that
does the damage.have three friends killed in crashes under 60mph (one was 20mph)
and they had all the grear but it still didnt protect them.Think im just a firm believer
in freedom of choice(not him before you say) which is why I dont use a safer version
    of traveling i.e a car.
