I always thought that bikes were high on CO2?

Signed it anyway though. Now stands at 3,068

I've signed up too. To be fair, I'd never thought about the price compared to a small cc car, just glad it is less than my car tax. Good point though

what are the true figures here?
I have read that a 2013 blade puts out 133.2 CO2 g/km, on a car that would be £125 per year?

Cbr1000s since 2006 have always passed the US environmental protection agency emission standards, which say a bike over 280cc can't make more than 12g/km. they even make a special version for California which has even tighter limits.

That usa figure is for CO (carbon monoxide) which is a fraction of CO2 (carbon dioxide)
Our 1000cc bikes put out at least 133 CO2 g/km, so infact we pay about half of what we do if we were a car

Never gave it a thought about emissions, worth trying though.

Our journey times are shorter and we're lighter. And we don't cause traffic.

Indeed :) but if our blades were taxed by engine emissions alone then our tax would go up to £125 as we would be in band E :(
So £78 doesn't seem to bad really ;) for us anyway lol ;)

So be careful what we wish for ;)

After all we do have a vehicle that has better power to weight than almost all vehicles on the road :D

But I do agree that smaller bikes should pay zero tax just as cars in lower bands do

There is a lot of facts and figures thrown about about bike emmisions but a report last year that
Was done proved that bikes produced up to 21% less emssions
On a typical journey than a car due to the fact when a car stops and
Starts the initial weight movement demand laboured the engine
More than that of a motorcycle causing more emissions to be produced.
Also they said when emssions testing was done its not at idle but
And 3/4 to full rev so that's why bikes were higher as they rev higher.
I think the telegraph printed the story?

Not seen that but sound fair, unfortunately if our blades just go on CO2 g/km like the petition wants our tax would jump up to £125 in band E :(

But as with all CO2 from engines, rpm is going to make a difference, but we really can't test what rpm we use on average, but I know my blade uses a lot more rpm than my diesel does lol ;)

The 2013 blade has dropped its CO2 down to 133.2 g/km so I guess mine is even higher?

Then there's the fact that a lot of bikes are only used on the roads occasionally, so would ruin the environment much less.

Either way it would only come in to effect on new bikes, just like it did with cars. So an old Blade it is then sir!

yeah that is true, but my old Renault Clio V6 255 only did around £2000 per year and yet cost £225, so my bike at £78 and covering 7000 miles a year seems a real bargain to me :D
The whole system is a little cockeyed but hard to get it right unless you go on CO2 and mileage?

Aren't you a bit tall for a Clio Simon, I hope it had a sun roof ;)

In an ideal world we should go with pay as you go tax, a much fairer system, just pay within the fuel you use.

trying to find the report atm but on the mobile so the net is a bit slow,
did find a bike v car test conclusion from pre 2003 before bikes got all the
new valves and flaps to lower emissions on the bmf website
    one point in the summary

It had low bucket seats ;)
Reckon we already pay as you go with our crazy fuel tax ;)

Its true that the average bike co2 is far lower than average car, but our blades are not average bikes ;)
