    Hi

A 10w-40 is the best option.

    http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-782-10w-40.aspx

The best oils there are the Silkolene Pro 4 and Comp 4, Motul 300v, Redline, Amsoil, Shell Advance Ultra 4*and Castrol Power 1 Racing. The Motul 5100, Castrol Power 1, Shell Advance VSX and Silkolene Super 4 are good cheaper alternatives.

    Cheers

    Tim

Hi Tim, what do you recommend for the pre 600 mile service period on a new street blade....will simply be swapping out the stock oil ahead of the 600 mile service

also, dealer service manager says bikes are supplied with a "special oil" for running in that even they can't buy....ever heard of that?

    cheers in advance

    Hi

Yes, the thing about running in is perfectly normal. 'Special' isn't really the right word though. Basic is a better word. When you're running in an engine, you want to use a basic oil as you need wear to take place. We don't really have anything suitable for that, all of our 10w-30s for bikes are a bit too good for it to run in well. I'd use the oil they put in and then put somethign decent in when it's ready.

    Cheers

    Tim

Thanks Tim, appreciate that and I think i'll just leave in that special oil (read that to mean basic) until the 600 service then.

    cheers

Just a thank you for your recommendation for the oil. I've placed the order, and it's been a pleasure doing business with you.

    Hello Tim,

I've just bought a used 2008 blade that mentions the use of 10w40 on its dealer service history. No mention of semi or fully synth

For topping up, do I need to worry about adding a different oil to what might be in there? I was going to buy 10w30 from you but thought I would check this first.

    Cheers

    Hi

It's fine to mix oils, so no worries about using a different oil to top up with.

    Cheers

    Hi

Yes, I think it's too thick. Over here, a 10w-30 should be the standard choice. With it being a bit warmer for you, a 10w-40 makes sense. A 20w-50 doesn't make any sense to me.

    Cheers

I was going to say the summer temp from Oz to the Uk seems to not be that different. OK not 45degs but 15-30 ish. the engine temp I have run is between 79-110deg. the higher temp I have seen on my bike in Spain. Normally 104 ish around town. And I think most of us run 10w30 with no issues
