Hi its time for a chain - sprocket replace, my 2004 blade has a 42 on the back,is this standard ? i cannot seem to find the stock sizes, is it a 15 on the front ?? and what on the rear ?? ( havent looked at front yet) it seems a lot of you have gone to a "44", do i need to go up on the chain length from 114? to maybe 116? want to get it right, as it aint no good getting the kit and the chain wont fit, cheers rolls.

16/40 is standard on an 04

I bought a gold DID X ring for a 2006RR (I also have an 04) The gearing was 16/42 and the chain fitted. Slightly quicker acceleration but lose a bit of top end.

thanks for that BANDIT, i finally found it, looks like previous owner has put a 42 on it, sprockets are fine but chain is shot. whats all this talk about putting a 44 on, i know 05 blades were 42 s, still it had motor upgrades so i suppose that is the reason, has anyone got a "44" on an 04 Blade ?? thinks it would be tooo low geared then, ken

04 and 05 are both 16 front and 40 rear in standard
The 06 went up to 42 as standard

all i can see on e bay for a 2004 is standard chain-sprocket kits, (40 rear tooth) so i wonder if a bought a chain sprocket kit for a 2006 does it have the same fitments as a 2004, so i can get the 42 tooth rear, ?? thanks.

yes it would cost more, its just tracking down a 42 tooth rear, when all i can see is "standard sets" that is why i asked the question as to getting the 2006 Blade chain- sprockets set, for the 42 tooth rear.

Put a 15T on mine this afternoon as one 'appeared' in the post this morning!

Forgot I'd bought one as I must of purchased it Pissed up a few nights ago after reading a thread on it! :p

Can't wait to try it out now and see if it's been converted in to the veritable Wheelie Machine I want!

Couldn't give a flying fuck about top speed being reduced TBH, despite seeing 174mph in Ireland I don't feel comfortable at much over 120!

mines got 15 42 (one down front two up rear) and the acceleration is excellent ;)

I have 15 and 44 fitted on my RR6 (-1/+2 from standard) and I went for 116 links DID chain.
I read somewhere that the only reason why RR6 got +2 teeth on the back was to give it a bit better acceleration. I dont think characteristics of the engine itself has changed that much comparing to RR4.
because RR6 is 42 teeth as standard and still uses 114 links chain I dont think you will need to go for a longer chain. Standard 114 should do the job.

it will put your speedo out a fair bit unless you have a speedo healer.

Being as the Blades speedo over-reads by some margin then the above will more than likely put it bag on! ;)

Not true as upping the gearing makes it over read so will put it further out

But he's not upping the gearing from the standard 16/40 on an 04, he's lowering it via a 42T rear, so hence an over reading speedo will be brought back in to check.

correct Sinewave i am gearing it down, i have had a 42 tooth on the rear for nearly 12 months now, hardly ever look at the speedo anyway, just change up at 9000

    I ment by upping teeth
He has gone for a 42 rear which is +2 on standard which makes the speedo read as faster than you are going
To get the speedo correct you would have to put say a 38 tooth on which I wouldn't advise

My 04 has a 42 tooth sprocket on the rear, I've no speedo healer and I've been clocked by an 09 Triumph speed triple and an 09 R1 at 70 and 80 and we were all reading the same.
