I have a problem but you don't need to hear about that, instead I need your help as my bike reached 105 this afternoon on my way home. The weather didn't feel hot. I have recently used K-Seal to stop a leak as I can't afford the £650+VAT for a new rad, I can't find a good secondhand one and I need to use the bike to get to and from work. I could understand the temp being so high when the weather was really hot but then it dropped to 85 now it is hotter but the weather is cooler. Can I have your advice please? Cheers Paul

105 in traffic is pretty normal for me - I'd only worry if it goes above 110 which is when the 2nd fan cuts in If you use the bike a lot maybe its a bit blocked with crud like I know mine gets - have you actually got a leak? If you have been to southern Spain / France in high summer and felt how hot is there you will have ridden with consistantly high temps - same as Pyrenees in September for me, when outside temp his mid to high 30's even on the move mine was at 105 and would not drop till a sustained open road.
It isn't leaking now mate. Just worried me as it's not hot here in East Sussex. Cheers for the replies guys.
To be honest I would say that's normal, mine climbs up that high when stopped and slow moving as long as your fans are kicking in I wouldn't worry but link will follow
yep mine will happily sit at 109 in traffic, if the fans can not stop it climbing any further then you may have a problem
105 is the norm before the fans kick in, in traffic. I have seen mine hit 107 before but that was after a good thrashing and then hitting traffic.
O4/05 have bigger Rads than o6/07 so this maybe the issue. If he put rad stuff in cooling system this can make blockages in rad and around water pump. And never ever use tap water in coolent.
I would be very wary of that rad without viewing close up. There is a huge amount of crud on the front of that rad, and it potentially looks like it has had winter use by the state of the fan housing. It took me 2 years to find a rad when i had an RR6, the centre of the core become welded with winter salt and crud which become impossible to shift, leading to the bike always running hot in traffic. That rad looks just like mine did.
Paul, Here is a link to a company who recore motorbike radiators, better then shelling out loads of pound notes for a new one or scruffy second hand one. Motocycle radiators and oil coolers supplied. There are loads of others about.
Sorry mate, but others have said over 100 in traffic and at lights is not a problem. Have a look in the manual. On the newer bikes there is an over temp light, if this comes on then you need to stop, let it cool down and check things like the coolant level and if the fan is working.
you sure your fans are actually working? there could also be an air block in your system. take you rad cap off,run your bike up till about 80deg (so the thermostat opens) and run for a min,adding more water if needed.this will push any air trapped in the system out.
Yes others said 100+ but mine stays around 95.. The fans kicks in at 110c. And if it gets hotter the engine cuts out till cools down. As oil burns
