Well I bit the bullet and bought a pair of PDC's. Several of my mates have them and rate them.Well as a Racetec fan I was curious with these or Sportsmarts but wanted more mileage.I've just come in from a surefooted 40 mile ride and I've got say they are lovely to ride on.Same tyre pressures 36psi they are softer than the racetecs with more feel and feedback. They feel lighter and makes the bike feel different too.I've got another 60 mile on them breaking em in, then I will hammer em to see just how good they are in anger.Racetecs were good K1 front K3 rear but 2300 miles is abit expensive in my book.Racetecs were lively on a damp or wet road, super in the dry they gave me alot of confidence.Especially on full lean. Your thoughts please on these and others you've tried.
Just went out there in my smalls to double check Pirelli diablo corsa rossos they are.Sideways not sinewave
Yup, running Rosso Corsa's me sen and currently it's the best tyre I've been on. Don't take my word for it though! These tyres won the recent Performance Bikes 2013 Sports Tyre test by some margin in both Road and Track catergories! That's good enough for me Pig!
So sorry dude! My eyes must be going! Used these on the track and was very impressed with them. Also used them on the road and like yourself I'm a big Racetec fan but recently I've been trying out quite a few different makes. Mileage was similar to Racetecs but I have to say, I would prefer Racetecs. Maybe it's in my head but I feel extremely comfortable on them. Been trying to find a tyre that gives me the grip but with some decent mileage, I'm currently on Metzeler M5's and I'm not overly impressed, just don't feel that they bite when I put the power down. Next up I'll be trying the PR3's as I've heard good reports. It's always good to try different makes for yourself. I'm sure you'll be very happy with the Pirellis, I'd use them again no probs!
Interesting thread. The Panigale I have on order will be fitted with Supercorsa's as standard. I have read somewhere that they P don’t use the release agent that some tyre makers use so will not be so butt clenching for the first few miles, Although, having said that, I will still be treating them with kid gloves for a while.
Firebloke....... I've just swapped out my PR3'a for the Rosso Corsa's as the PR3's whilst undoubtedly a good gripy tyre, wet or dry was just too hard at the rear for my liking. This is no fault of the tyre as they will give you around 5K wear rates so by default must be quite hard in the centre region and hence the harshness. If ultimate grip and reasonable wear rates is your bag then the PR3 will dissapoint. If you're a big mile commuter who likes the odd scratch then you'll luv em!
Am looking at a pair of these when I wear out my Michelin pilot pures, so all the feedback is good in my eyes
Had two sets of the Pirelli's on my RR7 and absolutely loved them. Very light, super grippy and leans very quickly so never had the urge to go to 55 profile. Are any of you running the Pirelli in 55 profile? I am sticking a set on at the end of the month when my 2CT's wear out. Can't wait
Yes, I'm running the 55 profile Nav and very nice it is too. No loss of straight line stability as some have worried about and tips in that little bit better. Only thing to note is that with an OEM Hugger the tyre does just, and I mean just, 'Kiss' the underside at speeds over a Ton or so as the tyre grows slightly at speed like all tyres do. If you look closely in the second photo you can just see the slight mark on the underside of the hugger. Stationary there is 10mm clearance though I suspect once I have a few miles on it it'll not touch anymore. It's not an issue though.
Tempted to give the 55 profile a go to see if it helps on track which I suspect it would with the larger contact patch leant over. Will have a look at the clearance on my rear hugger to see how much room I have to play with. I have the Taylormade hugger so not standard.
They are a cracking tyre but you say you opted for these over the sportsmarts because you wanted more millage, as far as I am aware the sportsmarts will offer better millage. I only got 2500 out of my drc's before the bands started to show. Cant fault them in terms of grip at all though
I think I would agree with this statement from my previous experience of the DRC's. Fantastic grip but less mileage than the 2CT's so that's why I swapped over originally but I want the grip for track days now
I agree also, the Sportsmarts will certainly outlast the Pirelli's, it all depends on what you want out of a tyre.
well that answers my next question....i was going to try them if the mileage was good but,i have been getting a consistent 4,300 to 4500 miles out of my rear sportsmarts ,which i have absolutely had no problems with on the road. i suppose it would be ok if i was just an occasional rider to use the corsas but i am clocking up around 10,000 miles per season and i dont use the bike for commuting on, so the corsas would be financially out of the question. £600 verses £300 per year swing it for me.
Good luck then boys - me and dave were killing off a rear Sports Smart in 2k if we were lucky! good tyres though.... ive tried the pirellis before, but maybe an older model so wouldnt mind given them a go, do sound good and the ones i had were great, not exceptional mind. but great all round... think i had the Rosso Corsa II??? was a while back now... we've discussed before and your right to say you felt it was hard, but i dont get that from the PR3 rear at all - which is why tyre's are so personal and each to their own, and why we can all discuss untill the cows come home! (i didnt mean that to rhyme) he's my rear after a friday night ride out, 50% in the dark and about 3 laps of the roundabout on way home not bad for a touring tyre if you ask me.... after about 4k of riding too...
4K miles and they look like that! I'd be through the cords at that mileage.Maybe that would be next on my list.Touring tyres I've never considered but will bear in mind next time though.
Jimbo how do you rate the front tyre of the PR3's? I had a go on my mates GSXR750 with the PR3's on it the other week and I'd like to know how you get on with the front tyre.
was through the cords at 1200 miles on the bridgestone S20. usually get around 2/2.5k out of most rears i've tried, sometimes a little less. PR3's i dont think compensate in performance at all on the road and give amazing miles. the touring tyre comment was a bit of a joke tbh mate, they are considered sports tourers but they look like tractor ones..... for the road i wouldnt bother with anything else, although still want to try the pirelli's to see if they are much better (going back form PR's) or possibly the new michelins... and see if the grip level is better and also actually measure mileage, something i've not been great at in the past.... prob stick some on, have 6 ride outs, need a new rear, blast that off again by the end of summer and stick the PR3's back on lol
did you not get on with them mate? they do take a bit more warming before they feel ready to go! no bother at all Col, think it gives a decent feel and never had an issue what so ever....knee down and pushing as hard as i can i think i run out of talent before the tyre does.... strips on the front are down to naff all to be honest, and thats on the road so a decent guide how confident I feel on them. if i'm honest, i kind of just ride the thing and not the best at giving technical feedback... to me something either feels good or i dont like it, i often wonder how some guys can determine such detail from the type of riding we do... maybe im just ignorant and too busy enjoying myself!? lol
