I know that most of you will have an urge to post that i shouldnt be tight fisted when getting a new lid but I only have a budget of around £100-150 and need to replace my lid that got gouged up last time on track. Any new lid is better than a damaged one tho right? All suggestions welcome

    cheers

Bought my lid at Cadwell BSB last year. Got it for £150 when it normally sold for £200.

As above, got an agv at donnington bsb for 69 quid, retail at new was 200,cheapest online deal at the time was 130. It def pays to shop about as you will find a deal if you look hard enough. With cheap brand lids you generally get what you pay for,and do you really want to crash in that:eek:

It is not about being tight fisted, it is about buying a helmet that fits right, and most definitely a new one is better than using something that has been down the road. They are designed to only be crashed once, although it is more preferable not to crash at all ;)

Tyke you have not hoodwinked me with the old only have so much for a lid .There is money for track days ,as much fuel as you can burn , tyres evaporating before your eyes but money is tight for a decent lid to protect your Brain of all things ..Wind your neck in a tad and think it out...Ps you know iam not wrong ;)

Not saying that giv just saying that a £700 lid doesnt mean better standard protection than cheaper helmets and im after some suggestions of whats out there on the budget market. Sometimes feel you lot give me a grillin cos of my age but im not naive to helmet safety ratings etc Not everyone needs an arai rx7 gp! If it dont fit then its not safe is it regardless of price. theres examples of 5* rated helmets on the cheap. just wanted to hear if any of you had some faves in the <£200 market? got your pm dave sent you a message back

    Cheera guys

I know what you are saying Tyke and although you are one of the young guns on here doesn't mean you are green or have not got the gist of whats going on in the Helmet world but what i am looking at from a distance is a guy who is enjoying his track days getting faster and more confident on each outing but the same guy has just come off at speed and smashed his helmet which only means one thing and that is the ''Head '' has hit the tarmac .So back to the question a budget helmet will just be that ie made to a cost so a helmet priced at about £120.00 (example) would have been made ,packaged ,shipped, Transported, Taxed, sold to a retailer, and profit added at source, and as you are a switched on guy you can work out the actual value of the lid .I have never had a full on top of the range £700.00 jobbie as some mates had these (Colin Edwards rep) and found them to be noisy! All i can say is buy the best you can afford and make sure it fits proper or it may spin around under force .Wise old man over and out.;)

Very wise words Giv broken bones can be fixed but a damaged head is a lot harder to fix .

I went with a shoei Helmet £380 think it was good named middle of the price range helmet not tested it yet and hopefully don't for a while ..

If you are on a budget YT get a decent helmet and stick it on a 0% interest for 12 months credit card ,as it really will be the best investment you have ever done. You will get faster and faster on track so protect your head mate with the best you can get even if it means dripping it up for 12 months .

What size head are you YT? Also what lids normally fit you?

I have an Arai Viper GT which I have for 4-5 years that I keep as a spare that I might be able to sell. It's in good nick, never been dropped and the liners are washable. Won't be sure of the size until the weekend but think it is 58ish.

    Yt,

One of best value lids for top notch protection is the hjc rpa alpha.
The Ben spies replicas are around the £250 mark with pinlock, 2 visors, bag, 5 year warranty.

    Same lid lorrenzo wears

    Also very light

, im on my second after a head / tarmac interface at Oulton in April.

If you are small on a Scorpion there is no way my Arai would be a good fit. Think my missus use a small Scorpion lid ;)

Yorkshire, I know its only a rep and not a genuine one, but you could do well to look here, don't think anyone will mess with you on track either

AH6043S German M35 helmet, WW2, quality replica, small size | eBay

On a serious note mate, 700 quid does not guarantee much more if anything over a good mid priced helmet, spot on with your comments above , other than a fashionable paint job, some latest trendy materials and an expensive name

Getting the correct fit is more impoirtant than anything, and so many peeps buy the wrong lid, so it will not matter if its 700 or 7 quid, it if don't fit right, it ain't gonna work in the event of a spill.

Good advice and more on here SHARP Helmets - THE HELMET SAFETY SCHEME
