Well my blade is 3 years old soon and booked in for its mot next Tuesday, a query as everyone has removed the standard tail tidy, do I need a red reflector on the back of bike? And will a cheap stick on thing do stuck on the no. Plate?
Yip mot regs require a red reflector to be visible at the rear of the bike, cheapest option is normally the common small 20mm stick on reflectors. You could probably get away with any reflective red sticker tape found on eBay too.
When I got my 600rr mot'd the tester cut one of those rectangular car ones in half and stuck it to edge of number plate to pass,he said to keep it and just stick it on every mot. Still got it in garage,gonna be 3 years before I need it for the blade tho
thanks gary for the link - now i understand what your all talking about nothing like this here - they only think is we must have a roadworthy cert when selling or buying a new vehicle of any sort. how much does it cost to register your blade in the UK ? - for us in queensland a single seat blade costs $236.40 for 12 months road registration and that includes 3rd party insurance.
Yeah moily it's defo in the regs that a red reflector is visble from the rear, now whither your tester is too bothered about the infraction on the bikes he does is a different matter! (would be different matter when assessor is in seeing him I'm sure!) If you were to get stopped by the traffic cops you could get cited about no reflector!
Also had two MOTs at different stations and passed both with no reflector. Can't see why you'd need one with a bloody huge legal sized reflective rear number plate. May be okay in 1953 with black and white plates, shit head lights etc. but it's about time regulations caught up with technology.
It ensures that, in the event of a rear light failure, some red light is still visible to other road users at the rear of the vehicle. Doesn't do any harm and weighs nothing so no reason not to have one IMO.

Depends if you have the space to fit one, though! My rear light cover is red so maybe that suffices and you only need the reflector if you have the clear plastic light cover?
No moily it defo a rule written into the mot regs all be it an old rule, if you look at any standard tail section they will all have a reflector fitted for this reason! It does not matter what colour of lenses you have fitted either, it also affects cars too and they need them too, although a car normally has them fitted as part of there overal light cluster units as they are normally larger than bikes but some have them fitted to the bumpers! As soon as the standard tail section is removed it removes the reflector hence requiring people to fit the small round reflectors to there number plate or similar. As said before this all comes down to the mot tester that is doing your mot and how he feels, it he wants to let it go then he will but I guarantee you if you ask him about the reflector he will say its meant to be fitted! If someone from Vosa was there inspecting the test centre while your bike was being mot'd it would fail guaranteed!
As shinysideup said you will need a reflector but you'll get away with one of the small button types as that's what I have on mine
Am guessing you've been lucky with your test station! But the 4 different test stations I've used have always asked for one to be put on
