Now before I start please do not let this into a Police slagging match. So try and be nice :mamba: I was just wondering what your experiences of the police? Keep it bike related? I've never had any issues with the police. Never been stopped and not like I keep to all limits either. Just a a time and a place. I've had my share of waves from the BIB while out. No issues at all on my Euro tour So how whats your exuberance:dirol:
Same here Never had a problem, and as u say time and place. Anytime I've been out and seen them on they're bikes I've received a wave. I've even had them coming up for a chat when stopped for a break. If only they could all b like that.
Had a mate who was a copper, he went on to ride an unmarked R1. When we talked about it, I could not believe his attitude towards nicking bikers. Needless to say we're no longer mates. On the other side of the fence, when I had a serious off a few years back, the copper who arrived was brilliant and helped me no end. So, as dan says, some good, some bad, as in all other walks of life. JD
Impossible to make generalizations for reasons already mentioned. I have only been stopped once in the last five years and he was a complete t**t. I have no bad feeling toward the police just because of this one fool though.
I have to thank a particular officer who stopped me and a few mates while riding the Alton Road, i won't go into the figures that were showing on the clocks but i was flying. I see a car parked up ahead and the thought did cross my mind as we all know that they do stick out like sore thumbs in their unmarked cars. Anyways i decided to carry on but then about half a mile down the road it was still on my mind and i rolled off along with a mate and we gestured to each other about it being maybe an unmarked car so we decided to just cruise. Then there it was...all singing and dancing lights and horn and everything in the mirror. My mate changed down and shot off...i do agree with the term "twat" as that is what crossed my mind. Instead Mr Policeman stays with me and has a chat to me for about 15 mins on the side of the road not lecturing me and not giving me the usual spiel. Instead he just wanted to know about the "whys" and the "Its me that has to tell the families of those you may injure and of course have to tell your own family such as your wife", after he asked if i was married! He showed me the readings on his computer and the wicked picture he had of me and the two other guys and there readings. After all this he ended the chat with im not evening going to give you a ticket but instead i know your mates are parked up at the garage ahead im sure waiting for you and i want you to go to them and scare the shit out of them. I'll be along about 10 mins after and will set the record chat. He was the best copper ive ever come across and apparently it was down to him being a FLO (Family Liaison Officer) and prefers the education route rather than the alternative. But scare the crap out of them i did especially the mate who thought it would be a great idea to leave me with the officer. The officer did turn up and have a chat with us and even had a coffee with us for about 20 mins or so. I count myself very very lucky indeed, especially with the readings and details he had of me.
Speak as I find. They've got a, sometimes, shitty job to do and the last thing they need is a pratt like me making it worse for them just for shits and giggles. So, wherever possible, I don't mess with them and, touch wood, they don't mess with me. I'm not saying that i don't have my little indiscretions, but I don't go drawing attention to myself. Remember they probably spend more time cleaning up the mess than they do hassling us to behave ourselves, so getting one in a good mood when they catch us playing silly buggers should be considered a bonus.
His views were in essence, all bikers are fair game, and any way he could catch one out he would do it and have no qualms about it. However, I don't think for one minute he is typical of Police Bikers, I had rider training with one years ago at Rapid Training. Brilliant bloke and a superb rider as you would expect, I learned a lot from him. I do also remember just before we started our ride, him saying "observe the speed limits in town, but once we've cleared them onto some decent twisties, catch me if you can". I couldn't get even close. My ex-mate on the other hand was quite simply a hypocrite, as he demonstrated on more than one occasion, and even moreso when on a European trip. JD
Not your typical Police biker. As said you get a jobs worth you get a sensible person. They are Human after all
Same here, some superb and some very bad!! But no point crying about getting nicked if your breaking the law in the first place.... We all know the risks but seem to forget te consequences once the visor goes down and the grins start!! But on the whole I can't complain... Although think we do get a fair bit more targeted the silly bollox suped up corsa boys!!
Oh and don't go to Switzerland if you think they are bad here!! Those boys don't f*ck around.... That's another story.
Good point. I'm sure it's a beautiful country, but I missed it when I was there as I was looking over my shoulder for big brother all the time.
For me good and not so good. Only two weeks ago on this site i told you i got a pull after crossing double whites and he was fine and let me go . Last year i went around a corner a bit over the top but safe got a pull and the bike cop was really freindly and give me some tips on position and getting on thegas a bit quicker out of corners (which was nice) I have had a few pulls for the small plate(Fair enough) but also had cops ride past me and were not bothered .I also have had a couple of run ins with car cops .One one the motorway near me I am more than convinced that i was doing 70mph simply because ihad just seen (11.30 pm) a Rangerover fully lit up parked on the hard shoulder of the m6 about 1/2 a mile back so you would be more than aware hence keeping to the limit ,anyhow this fat shite stopped me give it the i was doing 125 and you wrere gaining on me routine and you can go to courtif you like but i will do you a favour and do you for 90. And a few years back Doing 40 in a 40 ,i know that because i was stuck behine a car on a country lane and along come Strarkey and Hutch who told me they had drove up to 125mph to catch me so take the 3 points or go to court 2 against 1 .I took the 3 and made a massive fuss by grassing to there inspector saying they were doing125mph on country lanes .They told him they could not remember what speed they were doing but had noted mine .The inspector to be fair phoned me a couple of times and i think(hope) that they may have either been taken off the road or had this on there record.Just as they got into there car they give it ,we are bikers to . So there you have it ,for me i think about 50/50 split. I would respect them more if they stopped you for say something not to big a deal like going over double white lines (with plenty of room and safe) and just pointed out that there may be pitfalls that you had not considered ect .Thats Policing !!
Having been slagged off regularily on another forum when I had an R1, I'm glad to see a more 'adult' attitude towards the Police on here. You're right, you get good uns and bad uns just like any job in life, but there's no excuse for disrespect from the Police towards anyone. Let's be realistic, we all break the law every day when we get in our car or on our bike in respect of speed limits, but it's about treating each case on it's own and adopting a sensible attitude. But at the end of the day, if you break the law and get caught, you've no arguement. I have been a serving Police Officer for 27 years, but have moved away from front line Policing. I've maybe lost touch with the day to day aspect of the job but truth be told, I cringe at the attitude of some of the young officers I come across, they just can't seem to be able to talk to people and interact, a big part of treating people properly and with respect. There, that's me got that off my chest.:yo:
In 1982 I was pulled in by a copper when I dropped the clutch and pulled a wheelie right in front of him! Don't know where he came from! Anyways, he sat me in his car and gave me a proper bollocking a good 20 mins I took it all in and he let me off! Top officer. and I've never forgotten that bollocking he gave me. They are not all the same.
I got caught last summer doing abit more than is recommended on the road! we were actually going silly speeds! I only ride with my brother who has also got a blade. we were on a A road dual carriageway at 9pm no other traffic. the policeman chased us for 10mins before he caught us, We did'nt see him in the lay-by. As soon as we saw him we pulled over straight away. The officer got out and gave us a proper bollocking!!!!!!!! Fair play. we were very polite. I just said it was a fair cop guv! When he calmed down he was really polite back, He gave us both 3 points and £60 fine. We were well in the wrong. Moral is if your polite and you've been naughty, Apologise and take it! we should have been both banned! When I've been pulled by bike police before I have found them great. They realy only wanted to chat and look at my bike..............and warn me about my number plate being a tad to small!!
