Further to my earlier posting.. r1 gone...Blade here we come.. Thanks all for the recommendation's for tyres. Local tyre company has offered me today, pair of Pilot Powers fitted for £215 (not 2ct/3) Dunlop Sportsmart £298 fitted/Roadsmart £272. Finance's bit tight at the mo, with extra insurance etc for the Blade. Are the Dunlops worth an extra £83 ? I have not had a problem with Pilot Powers, on 2 previous R1s, but dont know how suited they are on a Blade.
You can get a pair of 2CTs for a hair under £200 delivered off eBay. Then just pay someone to fit them. If memory serves me correctly I got charged £20 to have them fitted. I do live in the impoverished North East though.
Got some Power Pilots 3 fitted for £230, bargain I think. I think they are well suited for the Blade. I use on both track days and commute
Just as a example, below are the prices I can get some Michelin tyres for Prices don't include the dreaded v.a.t Might give you a rough idea of how much your supplier is making out of the tyres
i too got pilot power 3's fitted for 230 +25 cash back from michelin awesome tyres even great in the wet when i got caught yesterday!
Looks a bit shyte that 'discount' structure Andy! When I had PR3's fitted my local 1-Man-band outfit, he did em for £250 fitted! Your prices for standard fitment PR3's come tp £223.80 inc VAT so that leaves my Guy with £26.20 for fitment and profit using your discount structure. Not a Business model I'd be wasting me time on I can assure you!
I think the promotion is over now (but could be wrong) but if you buy a set of tyres from the Michelin you get 25 cash back for bike tyres, more for cars. Shame I just missed out on a free track day!
Slightly larger profit margin down here in that-there-London, as I got Power 3's fitted for £265 which is a £43 fitting charge (ride-in, not loose wheels). Not going to be able to retire on that!
I'm not saying it's the best discount structure available, it was just meant as a example of what the current cost a average trader can purchase some tyres from a large trade distribution warehouse so rewyr1 could compare. You might be surprised on what little profit can be made in tyres to remain competitive. Your local 1-Man-band may take a hit on profit for the tyres he supply's in order to retain business for servicing or repair work where it is possible to make some larger profit, i don't know i'm only speculating here.
i had 2ct's on before and could not fault them atall. all tyres spin up in the wet but sometimes they would grip and lift the front wheel even though i was expecting them to spin! i now have the power 3's with the 2ct+ compound and they are just as good. so far they ahve done everything the 2ct does and are supposed to last longer. £235 off ebay and i fitted them myself
