I've heard people say quite a bit at trackdays concerning crashing, that you learn how to fall?? What's all this nonsense!! Lol when I fell off I had no choice but to faceplant the tarmac! Can anyone shed any light on how these people are defying the forces of science and walking away unscathed due to their crashing skill??
The only thing I have been told and did at Caldwell was to cross my arms place a hand on each shoulder, the theory being your arms are less likely to get wrenched or twisted if not sticking out
Do what Jason does he carries his wallet in his back pocket so naturally he lands on his arse and the sheer weight of said item slows him down to a stop.lol.
Don't tense up just go limp, if you tense you are more likely to break bones where if you go limp your body/joints absorbs the ground like a shock. It's quite hard to think of this in the seconds before your kartwheeling down the road though.
as suggested I've been told and seen to go limp, and keep you hands to your body. But then that goes out the window when you do fall off
Tyke,I think you're right,it's all nonsense. If these people have "learnt" how to fall then their talents are clearly wasted at track days. Maybe they should be on the Moto GP circuit imparting their wisdom to Lorenzo and Pedrosa(2 of the best riders in the world)on how to fall without injury
Same but if you are riding at a level on track where you are 100% confident that you will not fall do you not feel either like superman or that you could have gone quicker? Even the pro's fall off from time to time
A wise man(the fox ) once said "if you don't come of every now and then on track your not trying hard enough) So with that in mind I don't try hard enough as I don't want to come off but the top riders are always on the limits regarding a crash position not sure this would work IMO as its such a split second moment , just look at YT he was still in the riding position when the bike had gone else where.
I'm never 100% confident but I'm never expecting to fall. If that makes sense. I just ride as fast as I think I can. Having a track bike helps. I wouldn't be anywhere near as fast on track on my Blade due to the potentially horrendous cost of even a small off. You get corners you go through where you think "I could have done that so much quicker" So just I just try a bit harder next time round. Build up slowly. At the end of the day there's no medals, all you get for over extending yourself is a sore arse and an empty wallet ! When I fall off the first thing that goes through my mind is "What the f**k !!!!" Then it's down to luck.
I can appreciate that abv definitely, but I leave leisurely riding for the road. When I'm on track I like to push it, to me that's the whole point of it.
And it's having that mind set that will make you a better rider, like the top riders they all have to push there limits to beat the other riders ,its took me long enough to get the old knee down as I had to push myself to get the right lean angles as my brain was saying dont do that you will come off .
Love the style young Tyke but I have work next day and at 51......the bones wont heal as quick !! .......but so do envy watching wannabee Stoners and Co....
