Nice!! I went the Reims, dijon, Lyon nice route across country, was truly epic and very close to the Italian border at end of it.... Be careful of switzeland, and if going mont blanc tunnel, for Christ sake don't speed or change lanes in there!!!
Yes, ever since the fire! My pal (ironically a traffic cop) was with his pal and two other fellas he didn't know too well, one on a 1098r, other on gixxa thou The two above were giving big time, wheelies, carving through traffic etc etc All on CCTV and apparently they lazer the centre line so they know if you cross lanes which is a massive fine... Long n short of it, upon exit the old bill were waiting for them, the two upfront slipped by and my pal an his mate who didn't do anything were basically stopped, told them that they were getting fined as the whole group were guilty, they then impounded the bikes and told them to pay 5k euros or they were going to be put in custody until fine was paid!! He's subsequently banned from switzeland, and got in alot of trouble at work!! He even got told by intepole in USA that he wasn't allowed to hire a car due to his international driving convictions... The other two did front the fines though, so fair play on that one.
To add... Think they were done in the st Bernard tunnel, Swiss police are notoriously harsh on speeding... But since the mont blanc tragedy... There are massive fines imposed by the French / Italian police too. You can get fined for driving too close to car infront!!
Well I'm sure it's a valid Health & Safety protocol. God knows the Swiss would be the last nation to financially exploit hundreds of people being burnt alive.
totally agree! the consequence of an accident are far too great not to have strict rules and enforcements. but if you didnt know or appreciate them, and followed the car in front a bit close and 10mph over the speed limit without causing and accident and got a 500 euro fine, you'd be pretty gutted though
I went with my mate who runs the UK Iron butt rally IBA - World's Toughest Motorcycle Riders he done 3500 miles on his fazer in 48 hours. and in the summer went to the US and did all 48 states, 11,000 miles in 10 days. So I thought going for a "ride to eat" as they do would be a laugh
Wasn't sure!! Ha ha... But if someone in my family died in a fire cos some prick in a lorry was speeding I'd be pretty upset!! This is prob one of the only places I agree with the strict enforcement! But worth knowing about it of any of you fellas are heading that way
On our recent trip around europe we did around 650 miles in one day we got off the boat near Amsterdam about 9:30am and got at the hotel in solden in Austria about 10pm due to some breakdowns etc on the way. Was bit boring but thankfully i took my mp3 player and could listen to some tunes while riding which helped alot. All bikes were 1000 sportbikes and not a gel seat to be seen
In 2004 I went to Monza to watch the WSB on a RR2 blade with 2 mates on R1's. On the Monday morning we left Monza at 9am and headed back towards Blighty with the intention of stopping half way back for an overnight stay, but as we got into France the heavens opened and we got soaked. So we decided to just keep going as we didn't see the point in stopping overnight to dry off and then put wet leathers on again in the morning. So I got home at 2am, It was just under 1000 miles. I was in better shape than my mates on the R1's

Si, Don't go through switzerland and speed!!!!!!!!! Beautiful scenery but the police are Very Very tough!!!! I lived in the Alps for 10 years and got done twice both for around £500! A mate of mine got a £5000 fine in his Porsche! A great route would be Through the Jura Mountains ( A bit like the pennines but with no-one there) Besancon to geneva to Annecy to alberville to Bourg st Maurice up over the petit st bernard pass into italy then the E25 to Milan! The Petit st bernard will blow you away..............and it's france to italy so dosen't matter what speed you do!
430 miles. J11 M25, round to Basildon, then up to Suffolk all day riding, the reverse. Awesome day. Sore @rse.
