Well, the wait is almost over and tomorrow (Wednesday) it's time for a session on Crescent Motorcycles dyno to map the bike since my few little mods. Nothing really too special : 2011 Blade 4500 Miles from new Running on Shell V Power (Or whatever it's called now) Stock Exhaust with all internals removed (Cat, Chamber Seperation Walls, including EGBV valve and end exhaust flap). O2 Sensor Eliminator fitted Power Commander V K&N Air Filter Bearing in mind I went this route because I couldn't find an exhaust which "I felt" matched the bike. The only one that I liked was the Taylor Made, but it's build quality just didn't justify the price. So I went the modified stock exhaust route. I did this not for power, but I felt the stock exhaust sound just didn't match the bike, especially one in full race Repsol colours. So, I'm not after any significant power increase, but would be nice to see a good power curve and it running smoother at low rpm. A couple of extra bhp wouldn't go amis though.......LOL. Unfortunately I never had a "Pre Modifications" power run, so won't really be able to compare it against what it was doing in totally stock form, so if anyone has a dyno print out for a totally stock 08 - 11 Blade so I can compare the results against something, even if it's just to compare the power curves, torque and bhp that would help. Appreciate the peak figures you can't really compare from one dyno to another, so it's just the curves I'd like to compare. Will keep you posted tomorrow. Jim
As Promised - Three hours on Crescent Suzuki's dyno and she's all mapped up. Half of the three hours the technician spent taking off and putting back the right hand fairing (I'm guessing that's the only access to get to the coil packs ?????). They did managed to break one fairing bracket - The small plastic bracket behind the fairing just by your right knee, one end bolts to the frame and the other to the corner of the side fairing. They are getting a new one sent to me and I'd rather fit it myself to be honest. Apart from that little hiccup, a good day). Bike is as follows: 2011 Fireblade - 4,500miles from new. Modified Stock Exhaust - Cat Removed, EGBV Valve & Chamber Separator Removed + Exhaust End Flap Removed- (Basically just a stock muffler with all internals removed). O2 Eliminator Fitted K&N Sports Filter PCV Fitted Running on a Super Unleaded 98/99ron. And the scores on the door are Max Power 162.54 bhp Max Torque 80.02 ft-lbs GRAPH : Blue line as it arrived, Red Line after it was mapped Second Print out just shows BHP & Torque after mapping Overall, pleased with the figures, remembering this modification to the stock exhaust was just to make the bike sound a bit more fruity without spending big money on an aftermarket slip on that just didn't suit or look part of the bike, I always like the stock looking exhaust system, but it just lacked that nice sound that an aftermarket can gives. It's certainly a bit smoother down in the low rpm, but my bum meter isn't accurate enough to feel any difference at the top end. But a 5bhp increase and an increase of 4lbs torque I'm happy with. The main thing for me is that the fuelling is right and I'm not taking any risks on that score. The guys down at Crescent say it's definitely up on a stock blade, sounds great and runs really well.
not bad figures, they probably had the right side off to block the pair valve. I broke my mounts too polishing the bike :s cheap tat fairings lol
I don't feel too bad now, I've just ordered the bracket from Doble's and it'll probably arrive before the one from Crescent. Not too bad £5, and I just want to get it on before a fast ride.
Only 4,500 miles from new and to be honest I treat it pretty gently. Always let it warm up before using any decent revs, and then let her cool down after a good run before turning her off.
Very nice Jim!! I would be over the moon with those figures buddy. Going to be even harder to catch you up, well until my new engine is fitted
Sorry Phantom - I ordered it over the phone, just gave them the bike details and a description and they knew exactly what I was talking about (Apparently they get a little brittle due to the engine heat and can crack quite easily) Luckily they're not expensive and easy to replace.
Nice Jim! Your peak power delivery is very good using the stock can with internals removed! I was possibly expecting it to drop a little but looks like that's a healthy mod to do to the exhaust
It is a bit loud, but I've heard many aftermarket cans that are louder. I'll have to get it checked (Somehow), just so I know what db it is. But the easy thing is that in 30 minutes I can swap the exhaust back to my totally original one, swap the map back to "stock with O2 eliminator fitted" and I can be on track.
Pop to any local track doing bike or car track days and they will happily sound check it for you fella
Goodwood is close bye, so think I'll give that a go. Won't be for a couple of weeks though as they're getting ready for the Goodwood Revival at the moment, so no track days at the moment. Thanks for the Idea though.
Oh Nice........ And you can thrash that engine, now that you have spare one waiting in the wings. Have u picked up the other bike yet ????? I'm quite looking forward to winter and stripping mine down and doing a few things....... LOL.
