Has anyone ever been caught speeding with a Police helicopter, heard someone talking earlier in the week, one flew over them low, but never got stopped by any police on the road. I have never heard anything like this although I see they are piloting it in Essex, it would appear to be signed up saying they are using this method!

They are out round North Wales quite a lot!

U have to give it a 360 with the old Head before 'sending it on' a bit to be safe!

helicopters doing it alone or do the patrol cars pull them, is there a sign up to say so? I have never heard of it in Scotland, but there is always a first

This last Wednesday evening, Knott End. Same as.
The helicopter was active from Shard Bridge/ Glasson Dock.
I'm not sure on the legality of them actually using speed detection? But they are used for gathering evidence of wreckless riding/ double white lines etc for prosecution.

one out all the time where I live.I think they
can use objects on the road to map your
    average speed.

yeah its all yellow/blue markings with police signs.up and down the motorway and the local coast all the time.
with the hills around the coast the bugger can sneak up on you easy.

They used to use spotter planes on the "Cat & Fiddle" A537 near me. Dunno if they've upgraded to choppers, but given that they've recently installed a load of 50mph average speed cameras I doubt they need to patrol along there any more :(

A quick search yields prices around £2000 per hour around Lancashire?
Reference points? I am led to belive the white squares/double white dots are used as timing points.
Never heard of anyone actually being caught speeding by a chopper, only producing evidence of poor riding?

been up the coast road and have only noticed the standard speed cameras, none that are more specific to helicopter enforcement

There are signs for police helicopters enforcing the speed limit on the A6 between Matlock and Belper. Only been along there a couple of times and I haven't seen one yet. My m8 saw a Police marked Fireblade also in Matlock a few months ago to warn off any speeding bikes.

A police copter landed at the green welly a couple of years ago. Yellow top and blue underside I think. Talking to them they admitted that they did not have speed checking capability but could radio ahead if they believed someone was doing something daft!

Technology moves at such a pace, so it is possible however i think they would need to put signs up stating speeding birds in the sky, seems to be the way, signs for camera vans, police need to make themselves visible when out on the streets with guns, although the cars seem to have a different approach

oh you mean signs that speed cameras are in action.we dont have them apart from dual
carriageways.they like to hide inside the odd white van over here too.the problem with
the antrim coast is all the mountains and glens, you cant see the heli coming.
at the nw200 the bugger followed me for a few miles and I thought I was imagining
it until I was walking through the golf course to the paddock and it came in for a landing
behind me.I gave him the thumbs up an he cleared off,I suppose climbing over the back yard
fence of the house we hired with it overhead made him think I might have stolen the bike.

and someone caught it following me on cam lol

There is an area close to me where the copter is out all the time. They track your speed using markings on the road then just direct the boys on the ground straight to you

Police helicopters use the white squares that you see on the roads to work out your speed.
