As you all know I have just bought a new computer as the old one was " porned out" anyhow all is well except for a couple of things one being constant Windows updates and whilst I appreciate that the computer my have been sat in a warehouse for a good time hence needing updates what seems to happen here is that on shut down it says Dont turn off bla bla 81 updates so I walk away and later when I start it it says updates have been unsuccessful.so it then goes to. Reverting back switches its self off and on again.i then went into the windows updates and it says 81 needed so I start the process this way once all 81 are done the bloody thing says 80 successfull Wtf so the start up / off process starts again so I go back into the updates and it says 4 new updates which I do then when I come to switch off it say 78 piggin updates needed Dont switch off bla bla .Any idea . Thanks

Does the keyboard on the new computer have an enter key?

Said half in jest but the post is so hard to read as there are no breaks between sentences etc.

Just makes it harder to give you some advice etc.

Or install Linux. That way you don't need to spend any more cash.

Simplest solution is to never allow Windows to run more than a handful of Updates in one go. Let it run, say 10 max, then reboot, re-run Windows Update to let it re-appraise what is needed. Select top 10, repeat.

....or never let Window do updates. That's what I do. It was job number 1 when I got my PC. Turn off automatic updates. Don't inform me when updates are available. I've never updated windows on my PC and whaddya know. It runs just fine.

That too... I have to keep my work machines up-to-date coz the boss says so  but have never updated my home laptop, other than when a fix was released for an Excel problem I was getting, and I then installed just the required update.

Technical answer - Sounds like you need to clear the Windows update cache and reset the Windows Update Service.
Non technical answer - follow ShinySide's instructions above... :)

if you go into the update setting you will probably find that 70 of them updates are not essential ones.
just let it download the last couple or essential updates then set it to inform you rather than auto update.
what I hate is windows sending all updates to all devices, the last five I have got are for tablet pc's,
what the hell would I need that for :S
