Just a question guys... Ground anchors... are they effective? Given that there are portable battery operated angle grinders these days, wouldn't it be easy for a thief to simply angle grind the chain tied to an anchor? I'll be getting my blade soon, and have to start thinking seriously about security.
its like anything, eventually they can be broken. its the resistance time you need to look at, say you get a state of the art anchor but the chain or lock can be cut in seconds.Just a crappy world we live in now
Anything to make this more difficult is worth it. Not everyone will have a portable angle grinder. But will stop many opportunist theft's
I have a ground anchor bolted to my metal bike shed and it is a pretty solid lump, but... as has been said the weakest part is probably the lock and chain. I believe a determined thief will get through most things. As Remal said, all you can do is make it as difficult as possible. I have 3 locks on the Securit bike shed, internal hinges, disc lock and ground anchor, chain and padlock plus of course the bike alarm and I park the car up against the doors and the rear of the bike shed is up against a building and there is not enough room to get access from the sides. So if they get it, well I did as much as I reasonably could.......Oh, and I am a very very light sleeper with a mean streak
All good stuff Exfire, but from your description your shed appears to be at risk from a tunnelling attack, maybe need to sink some reinforcing rods a few metres into the ground
I'm starting to think the best way is to electrify the bike with 30,000 volts so when a thief touches it he gonna get fried. It would be his own fault of course !
At least you would get dna from where they shit their pants. Carpet gripper rods on the inside of the doors work well, they would leave half their fingers on the spikes. You have to remember they are there though !!
After a recommendation on this site I got an Almax Imobiliser III + Squire SS65CS Lock + Defiant Ground Anchor from these guys Almax Security Chains Limited The blade is also in a locked & alarmed garage.
I have the Almax series 4 chain and lock, with my ground anchor. Had it 5 years. cheaper in the long run than a alarm and will last more more than 1 bike. Amazingly heaving but well man enough to stop many intruders Love the shotgun blanks. seen that a few times. would be good for a joke to hook up to the gate and invite the elderly neighbors in
I have a ground anchor concreted into the floor and have just finished making a second one consisting of a 25 litre container filled with cement and strong bar with eye.
