Hi all, Sorry if this has been asked before but, just bought my new bike and wouldnt mind an idea of how much service costs are at main dealer? Bikes done 10800 miles?? cheers in advance... Simon
Thats going to be a right tricky one as it all depends on the service. my initial was £110, and I was quoted £250ish and £150ish for my 8000 mile service from 2 dealers. But in the end decided to do the 8000 mile service meself after reading the schedule. Will have to pay for the next one though so will be interested to see what others give as prices.
Prices can vary widely from garage to garage as has been said. The actual bike itself can also make a difference for example the ABS brake fluid change is really expensive due to the time it takes if following the manual which is meant to get done every two years! Best thing I can advise is phone around your local garages n see what prices they come back with as there is no point in someone on here saying the garage round the corner from them only charges £100 for a service but the stay 500miles away from you!
well rang Grantham honda today and they quoted me £300 for a 12000 mile service , which is just a fluid change I was led to believe and 3hrs work..... thought that was a bit steep mysen!!
I just paid £490 for a 16000 mile service at Dobles. I changed the oil and filters myself and also cleaned my brake callipers and changed the brake fluid too. They changed the 8 exhaust shims. The inlets were within limits. Expensive business .....
They are having a laugh...all the exhaust shims out, was the all the 16 k banging off the limiter on track?...never say never, but that's a first on me
I had a £1,000 service bill from Padgetts, lots done an when folk went over bill there was nothing OTT in any one area or extra work. Did include lots of clips that soon add up. It was at 50k and never had valves checked (needed lots) , oil and filter, air filter cleaned, front pads, dyno test, refit quickshifter and other misc items.
Ex Honda technician told me shim work is not necessary although he did say up to 07 models. After that he is not sure but doubts it.
What can you do? I don't have a garage so have to let the dealer do the shim check. Can you believe what they say? Who knows. The tech who did the job came out to talk to me and said the bike was sweet. It bloody well should be I suppose. It's done 18600 miles now. 17600 of which have been in Spain and France, so it's led a fairly high revved life so far.
Its a difficult one ninja, and I honestly feel it depends how you use your bike and where. I can only go on personal experience of over 20 years of modern Honda supersports/bikes engines. Back in the last century I used to run 600s as a daily work hack and trackbikes, Hondas & Kwaks, although the shims were checked on the CBR6s, only 1 ever needed changing in over 10 years, then my 1st Blade was a 929 in 2000, it spent the first 4K miles in the hands of my mate on the IOM and all 4K were brutal, had that checked at 16K all bang on, and never checked again, sold it at 90K ....were they out.....probably, but who knows? did it effect daily performance? no, not the way I used it, then followed a 954, RR6 and now a RAA, the 54 and RR6 crunched high miles and never even bothered to have them checked the RRA is going the same way, and it will not have them checked, just religious oil and filter changes at 4K intervals, always quality oil, used to be Mobil now Castrol, total of around 250K miles on Blades and probably close to same on CBR6s, so thats a lot of valve operation and so far no engine failures.....I am I lucky? Maybe. So where does this all lead too? I ain't got a clue other than I do not bother with valve checking anymore, careless maybe, and one morning if it will not start because the gap has closed up then I will be cheesed off at the inconvenience but lifes all about assessing risk.
I know this is an old thread but just thought I ask anyway- seeing your wealth of practical experience. Did you have any CCT issues with any of your blades, especially the RR6? Just curious to hear as mine (bought 3 weeks ago) is making a ticking noise which I believe could be the CCT. Still, I don't really know anyone I could ask AND trust, always concerned some stealer could take easy advantage and 'diagnose' whatever suits him best, then line their pockets. I have looked around on this and many other forums, including youtube videos (my wife thinks I am weird watching all those vids of broken engines lol), but cant seem to be able to diagnose it myself. Sometimes it sounds like it comes from the part of the exhaust near the driver right foot peg, but then again the CCT is quite close to that. What's your past experience?
