Ive seen the R10 on sale at our local track at an amazing price. ZAR2900 for a set(irrelevant on this forum??) . What struck me first is how soft the carcass is. Its really super soft. Ive heard the guys at the track say a really good tyre, smooth ride(soft carcass) lotsa grip. Long term, how they compare to the D211 GP Racer we use, we will have to wait and see. Since I ride both track and street. a whole lot of track and a couple hundred kms street a month. I dont see myself using them on the road. Anyone give the Pros and Cons of a super soft carcass, other than whats on the manufacturers website?
soft carcass will heat the tyre up quicker and prevent cold tearing as the carcass and surface will heat up at a similar rate a soft carcass will hide alot of suspension faults, which the NTECs emphasise. with the NTEC if your suspension isnt working properly the tyre wont compensate for it as much as say a pirelli which are very soft carcass. there doesnt seem to be many compounds on the bridgestone. dunlop bring out new compounds every few months so you can tailor the bike to a certain track or temperature better
I was talking about soft side walls to JHS as he was showing me the difference between rennsports and my 015's. I was amazed how soft they were and when talking to the boss hes was saying that it will give a better contact patch due to being softer and grip well. makes sense. By the by I have picked up some metzler racetech from a very good friend and racer. loads of meat left in them. And cost me £50. should last a fare few miles. Once I have got through them I am hoping to try the Bridgestone R10's unless anything comes out that everyone raves is better than the R10
I run supercorsa's on both my bikes road and track. Wasn't over keen on either the pilot power or the battleaxe or the 016's really. The corsa's let you know when you are pushing hard with a little slip here and a little slip there. Not slip, bye bye pick ya bike up off the floor.
i ran diablo supercorsa pro and dragon supercorsa pro in the first part of 09 on the track and theyre a decent tyre but on certain tacks they dont last to minutes. the diablo supercorsa start drop off after about a dozen laps too. i changed to michelin for a bit then the ntecs when they came out. i tried to get hold of some supercorsa bsb for the blade when i first changed form the OE dunlops but couldnt get any. they were meant to be a good road tyre
I've been on Michelins, then Bridgestones and now Avons. I felt like I got the best grip on the Backroad with the VP2 Supersport Avons. Back tire wore fast. So I've just mounted the VP2 Sport Avons. Anybody with some experience with these ? They are your home grown ! S
Got to add if anyone is looking for a tyre that can do trackdays and a few miles i've added 500 miles to the Dunlops sportsmarts. Used every edge, they were amazing on track and gave loads of feel and seemed to be bloody sticky. plus after the 500 miles with at least 100 of them on track I seem to have loads of tread left on the front and rear. I really hated the Dunlop's Qualifiers I had on my Speed triple but these Sportsmarts and bloody good I can vouch for them on track
Have no complaint with the Bt15's supplied on the bike, feedback is ok, don't overheat and have worn well from new to current 1500 miles - but the rear is now worn out. Like so much have just ordered a replacement rear (front is Ok)... Might toy with other tyres, but have no compelling reason to do so at the moment - unless I start with track days aplenty, unlikely at this time....
The Bt015's that come with the blade are as you said OK. but their are many better tyres out there. I've done 500 miles and a trackday on my Dunlop Sportsmart and they have loads and loads of meat left on them. I did not like dunlops I had on my Speed triple but these are bloody great. they will have another few hundred miles on them I think by the time I go on my euro trip in just over 2 weeks time. With a planned 1000 miles plus going to be added I will report back on how they are lasting after
Iv just hit 1000 miles on my sportsmarts and no flat spot coming atall , hardly any wear apart from the the rubber bobbling on the sides . Rubbing your hand over them they feel rough and super grippy unlike 2CT's iv ran for years which always felt real smooth
I have done nearly 2k miles on the Metzeler m5's, and the rear is barely worn. They heat up quick, ace in the dry and wet, and grip like anything. Best tyre I've used so far (Inc bridgestone bt15,16, Dunlop qualifiers and pirelli supercorsas) Give these a try guys, they are ace.
Vote for Supercorsas here, SC2 compound (not the SP compound). Mainly used on the track. Downside is they only last about minutes! (well, 6 hours of track time). Hoping the new TTX shock will give me some tire life back! Grip is fantastic and feedback is lovely. They do give you a little slip here and there when pushing hard, but it's progressive so gives you feel to correct it.
I might try these next, No probs with the Sportsmarts and hardly any wear @ 1000 miles apart from the rubber bobbling on the sides , Theyre expensive thou.. How much did you pay for your M5's Si ?
Gone from 2CT's to SportSmart SportMax. They take a bit of getting used to (turn quicker, warm up slower, so dropped 2psi), but I love them
Big fan of Michelin's here (some people say I'm weird lol) I try to run Power One's in the summer and 2CT's in the winter, although that plan went out of the window this year and ended up with 2CT's this summer, including trackdays. I'm pleased to say that I haven't had any bad experiences on the Mich's, even when I ran them a little hard at Cadwell in August (out of cal' tyre pressure gauge) and was leaving black lines out of most of the corners, they remained predictable.
I had paid for a session with Neil Hodgson at Cadwell and bought a copy of the on-board video from the front of his bike. I was shocked to see it, I can tell you!! I'd been following someone earlier in the day who was doing the same out of Barn, and thought to myself, I wish I could do that! I had another trackday at Rockingham the following month with my sponsored rider (in Thundersport 500 this year) and he told me I was doing the same there too. I'm kinda hoping that having my suspension fully serviced and sorted since then, and getting a new tyre pressure gauge, that it won't be happening anymore ..... we'll see I guess?
Quite simply, if your not on racetecs or supercorsas, you might as well be on touring tyres, nothing, i mean NOTHING even comes close, especially those god awful dunblobs & the shyte Power Ones.
