My Service book advises a service at 4000 mile or 12 months, having only done 3000 miles at 13 months the oil must have a use by date;-) it makes no sense to me at all, it's either 4000 miles or not, with in reason the timing should not be a factor, however if I want a full service record I need to service the bike early on mileage:-( Grantham Honda want £165 is that a reasonable price?
Hi Carl. I don’t think I have ever had a bike serviced on mileage; the time element has always rolled up first. Marshall Honda charged me 149.44 (in 2012) including parts and VAT for the 12 month anniversary service on my blade, so adding inflation £165.00 sounds about right. You could always ask Wheels for a price but bear in mind to then add an amount for the possibility of Grantham putting right everything Wheels have buggered up. We buy new bikes and therefore get hung out to dry if we want to keep our warranty and service book up to date. Had I not swopped the my blade for the Panigale it would have been just coming out of warranty, I was intending to pack it off to Arthur for its service safe in the knowledge that it would be done properly and professionally and not just paying for some spotty faced gimp to stamp my book (upside down in my case) with the Honda logo.
Well my first service (600) miles was Quoted by Wheels @ £99 and Grantham Honda @ £110, I went with Grantham on the recommendations from the guys on the forum even though its twice as far from where I live. However surely it is worth noting that the two technicians from Marshalls now work at Wheels so in theory the service should be as good as it was at Marshalls? I've no experience of service at Wheels so I can't comment on the situation before the Honda guys arrived but do remember someone on here saying that their best mate was a technician at Marshalls and he trusted him - just my thoughts
Their nice enough chaps down at wheels but I wouldn't want them to work on my bike, I realise that Marshall tech guys are now at wheels but they don't set the protocols or control the quality of component parts etc. ill stick with Grantham and from what you have said about the cost of your equivelant service at Marshall's the price appears ok. How's the Duke David ?
On a rear axle stand, plugged into its charger tucked up under a cover. I have not had a chance to ride it since we meet up on the 8th. The coming weekend is looking like it might be dry and bright, fingers crossed.
£165. Exactly the same price that Hunts Manchester have just quoted me today for my second service now my bike is 12 months old even though its only got just over 1500 miles on the clock and less than 1000 miles and less than 6 months since my first 'running in' service. Seems a little pointless to me but I don't want to infringe the terms and conditions of my warranty so guess I'll have to cough up. Interesting that your service book advises a service every 4000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first. My book states 4000 miles or 6 months and yet from memory isn't your model the same as mine just different years ; 2011 v 2010? I've read a number of different threads on servicing over the last day or two and there seems to be an awful lot of confusion about the service intervals for the 2008-2011 models.
Just ride it, I will have done 3000 miles in 10 days with no issues at all, not even topped up oil level but did check. Can see need when bike under warranty to service to standards but I stopped after that and waited till 50k for the valve check for example.
