Hi, Have just received my new Yoshi Tail Tidy. Haven't opened it yet, but it does state on the packaging that it doesn't comply with the Dept of Transport regs & is intended for closed course use only. Just wondering what makes this product non compliable with the DOT regs & is it ok to use on road etc?

Also, would it fail an MOT? Has anyone had their bike fail an MOT due to the tail tidy?

Does it come with a reflector? You need one for MOT.

It may put the indicators too close together or something?

N.B. I don't think bikes need a number plate light for MOT.

probably just as it doesnt have a reflector so just get a stick on one for the numberplate.
the indicators must be numerplate width apart and you must have a numberplate light
but some testers let the combined indicator/light units pass(our test centers here wont).

Doesn't all Yoshimura boxes say that it is meant for "closed circuit use" ?
I have one fitted, and don't see that the indicators are closer.
If you got a number plate to fit into the plate frame then yeh, I can see why it would be illegal.
I have mine stuck onto the frame though.
Definitely doesn't have a reflector, but then neither does an R&G one.
Wee button reflector required to stick on the number plate (which reminds me that I need one).
Number plate lights are better than the R&G one anyway.

Cheers Ratser. I don't intend to use a small number plate.

ive got the r&g tail tidy on mine, had 1 on the R6 and never a problem, even mot time.

there is regs regarding the space between the indicators need to be certain distance ( correct me if am wrong anyone ) so u may have to check that but doubt it is an issue, u can buy a stick on reflector for ur plate.ijust used the one off the original number plate bracket and made a hole in original plate on the bottom and bolted it into place, looks dagt but will pass the mot in 3 yrs time :)

Very funny. It's just me panicking & being a numpty. I now remember on my previous bike with an R & G tail tidy it had a stick button reflector. So I think that's all I need to get.

    A few facts:
the distance between rear indicators should be 180mm. these are the requirements for VOSA conformity test. don't think it's so important for the MOT because I always put indicators integrated tail light on every of my bikes and never had any problems passing MOT.
small round reflector (as posted above) which you normally stick to the nymber plate is again all you to pass MOT.
rear number plate light not required for MOT.

    Hope that helps.

See I questioned a mot tester on the plate light.I was told
Vehicles must have all lights working, all modern vehicles
Are produced with a number plate light so it must be working.
Removing it is modifying it away from road standard so unles
The light is replaced it will frail.maybe the rules are different over
Here as we have government test centers, local garages can't do
    Your mot.

last month I put my two fireblades through MOT and none of them had a number plate light and only one had a red reflector. both bikes passed MOT without any advisories. I'm not saying you wrong phantom but maybe they do test bikes differently where I come from:) the bike without reflector even had an integrated indicators dark smoke tail light and still passed.

I've got to say that I used to hate getting my car done when I lived in Belfast. I feel for you Phantom, what a bunch of self righteous little scroates they were!! I'd like to think things have improved since my departure.....but maybe not!!

Yeah mine almost failed as my reflector had fallen off so they managed to find and fit a 3quid sticky back one just in time. It's just a lot of tail tidies don't come with the reflector ;)

yeah I avoid the belfast center at all costs, they would fail you rather than an advisory.
I failed with a vfr400 as I forgot about the reflector, they were even going to fail my
duke as they said the numberplate light looked too blue even when it was clearly white?
integrated lights are a no no in our centers, wonder will we ever get the garages doing them
    like you have over there.
