I'm thinking of having BT Tv etc and I'm looking for advise, is their tv and broardband any good, I like the free sports on broardband? What's your experiences etc Thanks guys
i have had infinity for the last year mate and can honestly say i haven't had one problem with it, cant remember the numbers but my upload speed is faster than the download speed i was getting with sky we use 3 laptops and all the smartphones go through the wifi when we walk through the door.even friends use the wifi when they come over and it never seems to slow it down i pay roughly £30 a month for my phone and broadband and cant see me going anywhere else anytime soon purely because of the trouble free service i also have the tv which you also get espn with which is good for me as i like the nfl and all the european football, ufc, there ia nacar.boxing.rugby aswell if your into that? the mrs like the darts so all's good and i think i pay about 3 quid a month for that
I have the Talk Talk broadband that is equivalent to BT infinity 2. The actual wall mounted equipment is BT openreach and was installed by BT engineers. Only downside is the crappy huwaei wireless router that talk talk supplied, but this will be sorted come march when contract ends and I go back to BT to get their router and BT sport.
The free BT sports are the low def channels. When I signed up it was an extra 3 quid for the high def ones. I've always had BT broadband and am lumbered with abysmal bandwidth, but that's geographical. I get very little signal drop, just very low speed.
The guy who lives next door had recently signed up with BT but got out of it sharpish due to not being able to ever contact them and this was at the signing up stage .He is now with Plusnet on a high speed contract and loves it .
I have had BT Infinity for a year or so now. Living in an area where the tinternet connection speed used to be absolutely crap, its been great. No problems at all and BT Sport free for a year is a bonus. Another bonus is that you can add BT Sport to any mobile device or tablet, so my son has my log in, now he has gone back to Uni.
had infinity and hated it. okay great for general browsing but as soon as it his 11pm it kept dropping out.the wifi on it was useless with next to no range and the customer services wouldnt reply, instead they emailed me links to the bt forums where it was just everyday blokes trying to fix each others problems with no official tech's there to answer. If I posted a YT vid after 6pm it would drop out mid way no matter how many times I tried and the official forum replay was dont use the wifi but instead hard wire it.so I moved to sky and havent had a single wifi problem or dropout, okay not as fast but I would rather have the reliability.
it does seem that connection....drop out issues seem to exist for customers of many broadband providers....personally I think it does have alot to do in where you are based condition of lines..... and local exchange...... I ve only ever had two providers... Orange and Sky which have been slagged many times by others..... but I cant fault with either.....
my main problem was wifi dropout, everything was blamed from my telly, neighbors bt boxes and even my laptop itself.funny how I dumped the BT HH unit and never had any problems after. The signal also couldnt make it to the upstairs bedroom on the far side (no its not a really big house)
My BT HH had the WiFi range of a fart in tight pants, despite generous input from Arthur (all hail the bikemad). No stud walls in the house probably don't help. I've gone over to these. with one of these... In the electric socket in the farrest corner of the building to throw some WiFi into the garden. I can make it to the workshop now and still get a signal, just, but the BT HH was crap. There's a new one now but they want over £100 for it.
yeah they told me to buy signal boosters, I said I am paying you for a service. a service that I shouldnt have to fork out more money to get working so I took my business elsewhere, I mean could you imagine buying sky Tv and it not working from the word go and being told to go buy another dish to make it work, worst customer service ever, and I swear if one more Indian person were to tell me to press the hard reset button I wouldnt be responsible for my actions
Interestingly, a couple of months ago when the donkey that drives the generator supplying my bandwidth died, I psyched up for my traditional Saturday morning phone call to listen to them lying to me about traffic and the number of extensions in my house (none), while they remotely removed the cap placed on my line at the exchange... and the automated complaint system routed me to a young lady with not only an English accent, but a surprisingly west country one. When I mentioned my surprise, she explained that since May, 'more complex' queries are now routed to an English call centre as their research has shown that speaking to a person with whom you share an idiomatic understanding of a language is much more efficient. Well duh....?!? She was in Exeter, by the way, which I thought was a bit prejudiced as I didn't think my accent was that thick...
You may be right. Who cares, I got mine working again. She probably expedited it because we were related.
Was thinking of changing to BT but after reading many reviews it appears to be no better than my utterly shite Sky ! Wired devices are fine but all of our iphones, ipads or any other wireless device constantly drops the Wi-Fi signal, change the channel and it connects but then 2 minutes later the signal is gone again. I am blaming the crap router than Sky supplies but maybe it isn't that. I need them to give me one of their new wireless hubs to see if that helps, last time I moaned they sent a replacement router the same as what I had only this one was used !!
I have the latest sky hub and haven't had a single drop out On it, and that's is beside my tv which is meant to cause Problems.
I have to be fair. Although I don't get much more than 10 metres wifi range out of my BT HH, I very rarely get the signal drop out many others complain of. The new hub is supposed to have greater range and signal strength but I'd have to fork out £109 for one. I think not.
Interesting to read what you are saying Ken, We have one of these 3rd generation bad boys (I don’t use that term as endearment either): which is the replacement for the blown one during the storms. When I politely asked without a hint of sarcasm asked why they didn’t send the latest generation 5 HH's I was told as an existing customer you would need to pay.....not for long if that's your attitude was my considered retort, anyway I digress. Can you add those little gadgets into the system to boost the system then Ken, do you park the master in the main socket closest to the hub and plug the hub lead in bottom, then add the slave units around the house?
There are plenty BT Home Hub 4's on eBay for a lot less if you don't want to pay £109. Or if you don't need some of the newer features using the older 2Wire BT Home Hub can give a much better performance and range. WIFI signal will depend on the construction of your house as well as who else is transmitting on the same channel nearby. Programs like inSSID'er can help show who is transmitting on what channel so you can move channel if needed. Newer routers Like the HH4 will do it automatically. Getting a WIFI signal through solid stone walls is a bit harder tho.
