Get one with a tint or fix a small tint yourself at the bottom of your screen , My bike was parked up for about 2hrs and the sun came through the screen And put a 2" melt across the top of the clock , You have been warned
I'm 5 ft 9 and can do all day on the blade without a problem, stay loose and move around on the bike.
Yeah relax and stay loose, the bike corners intuitively so theres no need to muscle it around too much. I use helibars too which move the bars back and up about an inch, but I have long arms which helps , but I am 65 and arthritic. Look for "twist of the wrist part 2 ' on youtube it has some good technique tips
Im 5'6 and no problems with riding position, just completed a 2000 road trip, on one day done 400 miles, with no aches or pains. Stopped every hour for coffee/rest break. Higher screen may help a bit. Had a 2008 r1 before, the Blade, and got wrist ache after 70 miles...
I'm very sensitive to riding position & have struggled with my 2010 model more than any other modern sports bike. The 94 model (Urban Tiger) is a very different animal (I have owned most fireblade models inc a 92, which is, for the most part, the same as the 94). The reach to the bars is very long, the tank quite wide & the footpegs very high; imo, they are more extreme than modern examples & almost impossible to be comfortable on for extended periods. My 2010 model came with Helibars, but I removed them & refitted the oem clipons; the Helibars were comfortable, but removed much of the feeling from the front (for me). I think the tank cover shape is wrong (& it seems most racers agree if you look); it slopes away too much not leaving enough to hold onto with the legs etc. I have since fitted the HRC tank cover which many of the racers use & it is much, much better. IMO, the footpeg position is wrong too (for me). E.g. if you take vertical line down from where the seat meets the tank down to footpeg level & measure rearward to the pegs, the Blades footpegs are 40mm further forward & 10mm lower than an R1 (2007 model used to compare); the reach to the bars however remains the same. I have gained 20mm rearward using the Gilles adjustable footpegs, but it not enough; I have now bought a set of R&G rearsets which I hope to fit tonight. These may also mean I will remove the cabs system (which I hate) but thats another story! Excellent pointers about moving the controls to suit you; its surprising how many people just leave them. I guess comfort is a very personal thing & has a big effect on confidence if the rider doesnt feel "locked in" & happy to do the miles.
Every bike i have had ive just hopped on and ridden. Always done a 2/3 k mile tour every year and never had a problem! You can adjust your riding style with a different bike?
6ft 2" here and managed 2000 miles in 6 days toruing on the blade. Only thing that hurt was my legs but that was only due to hip operations and stuff but will agree the higher screen helps hugely
Agreed the acting is crap but the OP may still pick up some useful info (If he can get past the crap actors LOL)
In regards to higher screens, are we talking about double bubble screens or are there higher screens out there for 2007 blades? So far I have only found MRA & Puig double bubble screens in my search for a higher screen. TOTT2 is good but acting is terrible! Lol Currently watching "the cornering bible" part of it as my technique is real bad
Yep, went out the other week on me own & ended coming home after 20 miles - just wasn't relaxed at all & result was stiff body. Relax will def help. Also my first litre bike & a 21 year gap in ridding. I'am exactly the same - straight lines fine. I take corners really slow. I've decided to go on the Cali Superbike School next year - it's all about how to tackle corners. Heard it's a great course.
Had another little go out Much improvemnet by gripping the tank with the knees, looking through the top of the eyes and moving about a bit. Only the throttle hand ached a bit.....I must learn to shut off LOL
After reading this I have just moved my levers down a bit in prep for a nice long trip round Europe. I have stomp grips fitted and found them to be really good took some getting used to though I found.
Tallest screen going for the Blade is the Zero Gravity Sport Touring Screen I have on mine. Zero Gravity Sport Touring Screens - FREE UK DELIVERY
