Who declares their mods when getting insurance and has any one had any issues claiming after not declaring a mod ? I'm looking for new insurance right now and I've just been refused a quote after telling them my end can is not road legal. Last year the website I used allowed me to declare the end can with out asking about it's legality but they're a bit expensive this year. Any insurers out there that are less concerned about exhausts ? I'm actually thinking about going back to standard as the cost just not worth it.
didnt before but worded the mods differently to see how much it would cost when I renewed my insurance a few months back and it cost me nothing to add them
no point me saying who they are as they are a n.ireland company but thought if he words it differently he might get the mods added for free
Fair enough matey, just thought that being as N Ireland is part of the UK that whoever you used would have to cover the UK by default, same as my Ins Co' covers N Ireland by default.
they wont quote anyone outside n.ireland but they cover me for all of the uk, can msg them an ask UK Car Insurance Quotes | Insurance cover for Northern Ireland
How can you possibly expect an insurance company to cover a bike on the queens highway when you've just declared the exhaust is not road legal? Slaps forehead!!!!
If I lie about it being legal I may as well just not declare it. The guy asked me outright if it was legal and BS stamped.
Had my R1 insured with Axa....mods declared Arrow Cans...Short Levers...Micro Indicators...Tail Tidy...No standard sreen...plus other cosmetic items. They accepted all at no extra premium. When I changed to Blade, I declared GP Pro can...Tail Tidy...plus other cosmetic items and again no additional premium, but the Blade was more expensive than the R1 to insure. Not heard of an insurance company to refuse to pay out, for non declaration of mods, but it does give them an excuse to reduce payout. Previous company Aviva would apparently accept up to 5 mods, anything over hike in premium (suppose it depends on what u tell)
mate of mine works for a bike repairer for insurance companies, he sent the insurer a picture of a damaged bike. the insurer picked up that there was a k&n sticker on the bike and asked him to check to se if it had a k&n filter fitted . it did, so the insurer reduced the pay out.
i,m with motorcycle direct and declared on my blade, yoshi r77 can, and various cosmetic mods and was charged no extra for that. i highsided my zx12 years ago which had an undeclared full akrapovic system on it, my local kwak dealer and friend could sell sand to the arabs so he wangled it with the insurance assessor (which worked as long as a standard system was refitted as i destroyed the silencer in the off). since then i always declare any mods. might not be so lucky next time!
Currently looking for insurance myself as Swinton who I like and have used for two years have decided to rape me! As I swopped bikes last month and the insurance is up at the end of this month I coughed up the " Admin cost " of 45 notes ,ok my problem I can live with that but what has naffed me off is 9 years no claims ,Garage with proper alarm and they now want £480.00 for a 750 which is dearer than the Blade would be ! As they had the info from last month they may have noted that I declared the Yoshi can and this may have jacked it up .When does it get cheaper ?
I'd say my bike is fairly well modified and I've declared everything. Cost me £60 more than it was to have the bike stock.
my insurance company wanted to charge me more for the r g crash protection, paddock stand bobbins and bar ends wtf!! wouldnt even qoute with the yoshi on
Are you paying £480 fully comp? Does your insured bike have any mods? Im paying £700 fully comp on my 07 blade with 0 NCB, i passed this August....so im hoping when i get to 10 years NCD it will be a couple of hundreds.....my cousin pays £170 fully comp on his Honda Shadow, he is 21, and passed this January.
