You should watch the programme on Sky Arts called Metal Evolution.
Great programme, showing it developing from Blues and Jazz etc.
Same guys who made the brilliant film Metal:A Headbangers Guide.

Rock n' Roll, rock and metal has always remained mate.
Just avoid listening to crap pop radio stations and watching reality tv to avoid the hype of JLS, One Direction and so on.

Was at work the other night and one of the "residents" was playing Hotel California by The Eagles, classic tune:)
Found myself singing along as I strolled past. Couldn't even name one song in the current top 10.

It's a funny thing. I've seen the Eagles twice and both times I found myself singing along at the top of my voice all the way through the gig. And so was everyone else!

In my mind that makes me an Eagle.

I know there's a place for this on here just couldn't resist

Found myself listening to Radio 1, R2 & radio wales for the past week as the hands free has gone down so I'm without my own tunes, radio 1 stayed on for all of 20 seconds, after which I listened to debates about smoking bans, politics (professional liars) the news & weather & the origins of Spam, not the spam you get banned from the forum for posting but the grisly ground up leftovers off the floor from the end of the shift in the abattoir

I can't listen to the shit that comes from manufactured kids off x-factor and the like. I have a dab radio, best £30 I spent as I tend to listen to the 60's through to the 90's. Don't have a particular favourite group/solo artist.

I've been swapping between gold which has a mixture but mainly 60's and the absolute radio channels, they have a 60's 70's 80's 90's up to today all on separate channels. Only thing is they don't repeat any 1 song in a day but the play list is the same day after day. After a while you can set your watch by the song that's playing.

My problem with listening in the car is that sooner or later I'll find a radio station that'll play exactly the music I want to listen to but then I have to listen to an irritating arsehole of a DJ too, you know who you all are. Better to just weigh down the auto changer with MP3s or plug in the player when I'm driving. You can get about 25 to 30 albums on a cd and even then, when I'm driving I sometimes prefer no music at all.

I have two 160gb iPods crammed full of all sorts of music that are kept in the car.
Mostly metal and rock, but definitely no pop crap.
Well, apart from Depeche Mode. Earlier stuff the better.

If you like AC/DC then you would love Airbourne.
Going to see them for the 7th time in November or December this year.
Loudest band ever. Your ears just ring for days.
    Great show too.

I listen to all sorts of music, especially when I used to DJ
but TBH I dont enjoy rock music at all, never did anything for me.
I would rather have the computer generated stuff but not the boy band pop
stuff thats in the charts.music is a generation thing so some day I might
be an old lad moaning about why cant we have the digital music over whatever
    the next style is lol.

Decent rant YT and completely justified .If you want a proper fix of rock check out 129 Sky Arts 1 12.20 am Iron Maiden Rock In Rio . Approximately a quarter of a million fans watch Iron Maiden take Brazil by storm .I saw this only a couple of months ago and looking forward to another slice .Top concert ;)

The intro with Adrian smith running on stage & shredding it up got me hooked, I was a raver/ drum & bass head until the day I watched rock in rio, I also converted 2 of my brothers who firstly called it greasy mosha music, they too have conceded that the metal & rock is where it's at & a few old school raver friends have also got on board.
    P.S
It did hold the Guinness world record for loudest live performance, not sure wether it still stands?

think leftfield are the loudest live performance at the minute but then
the guinness category was scrapped many years ago on safety reasons.
I remember some of the bigger dj gigs had DB meters that cut off amps if
you got to volume happy, usually at the end of the last tune we would crank
it up high enough to trip them all off lol.
