Pirelli DRC's fitted with 55 profile rear for the first time ever!!! Rode home mostly with my feet down for any bends due to miserable weather but hopefully I can do a quick 100mile scrub in saturday if its dry and get a proper feel of the difference. It hasn't fouled the TM hugger at all Will then happily critique the difference I notice as I am very familiar with 50 profile characteristics. Maybe I will need a susp setup we will see....
That is the theory and also that it has a larger contact patch leant over which will be very useful on track
Ahhhh i didnt think about the extra contact patch, food for thought for next yr as this poor weather looks like it stopping over the U.K. For a bit
I thought this too till I got some, then as you can see I found them so confidence inspiring I soon had em looking like they do in the above pic. Best tyre I've ridden on outside the Metzeler K2 Interacts on my ZX10 Trackbike and are only better in the dry as they are road legal slicks TBH and not really designed for road bikes, show em some damp and they're way down on performance compared to the Pirelli's!
I am dry weather only rider unless caught out so really hope these are the best compromise for fast group track days and dry road riding. Do not have the balls to put wets on and go for it on track like Jimbo did recently, I just cant do it lol
I'd say so Nav. I've used my Blade on Track with the Pirellis and found them ACE and they are very good in the wet too. This is why they won the Fast Bikes (or was it Performance Bikes?) 2013 Top Sports Bike Tyre Test I find road pressures for solo use best at 36F 34R and Track use 30F and 26R
Honestly mate, I was a bit nervous but they are amazing.... Helps being on a track bike mind! Oh and like sinewave says, I actually think its easier to get rid of strips on 55, just feel more comfortable in the corners
I have those in 55 on my Suzuki, as already said, great tyre in the wet, I ride all year round so like the confidence they provide. Just ordered a 200/55 for the blade for the winter...
When I went to Spain earlier this year I went out on Metzeler M5's 50 profile and try as I might I could not scrub off the last quarter of an inch. Rear tyre didn't last the duration so had a Rosso 2 fitted while over there with a 55 profile and subsequently scrubbed it to the edge on the first day. I'm convinced it's easier to lose the chicken strips on a 55 than a 50.
Totally agree with Sinewave they are fantastic tyres! You have do have great feedback with them and it does take a bit more to rid the chicken strips. Have you not had your suspension set up yet navvy? Happy to share my settings if your interested got mine sorted by JHS racing in Bristol
Mate mine might be going the same way! if things go to plan I might be able to have an 899 in the garage too but things have to go really really well lol
Ok so actually managed 50 almost dry miles and I have to say what awesome tyres and the 55 profile is amazing in the twisties so impressed!!!
