Looks like we may need to get out and about prior to November as I have just read an article on Google news which seems to be from a few different weather agency's .Yes I know its October and mild but I for one always have an open mind having always worked in Construction .IF its true then we are looking at the worse winter for 100 years and real bad snow in November something to do with the old " jet stream " chestnut .So there you have it or read it yourselves .

Is this the old 'Daily Express' source of information or anything reliable / trustworthy / worth taking notice of?

I've only seen it written the paper as cheap and easy news story

Some possible science behind it, but mid October and no frost is rare

Bristol next week anytime. Who's coming ? :) I take the forecast almost and serious as the media. If they get it right they are bloody lucky.

Did you miss the summer. Had many BBQ and pretty much a great summer from my point of view. Many great holidays trackers etc from April until sept. Still t shirt weather mid October and 15 degrees at thus time of year.

Has brum been that different 100 miles north

But this year it could be true! lol

TBH im thinking of getting rid of my BMW as the 1st sign of snow the rear wheels start spinning out, so may get a 4x4 or truck just for winter, this looks nice

They can't even get the 5 day forecast right, so it might be the mildest winter yet ;)

If the jet stream or the ocean currents that drive it have shown some measurable change then there could be some truth in it. Where I live that means snow AND LOADS OF IT shit for biking but great for my other passion......ice climbing.

The reality of all this discussion centres on where you live on this rock.

Down south, I can honestly say that I take the long view to stats, in 36 years of riding, on average there are around 6 days a year where I cannot commute due to the road conditions being to icy/snowy, and I live in a semi rural area where road salting is more of a luxury than a right.

Obviously the further north you go, the worse statistically the weather is.

We're similar here. Exeter is placed such that the prevailing wind, south-westerly, gets most of the bad sky crap scraped off by Plymouth and Dartmoor and when the wind shifts north, we have south Wales and Exmoor serving the same purpose.

If there was a God, that would have been his main purpose for creating Plymouth and Wales, so my palm trees and grape vine don't wither.

Reading some of the long range forecast websites they all seem to be predicting a drier but colder couple of months up to December, that would tie in with my old wives forecasting method of counting the berries on the bushes in my garden, there's millions this year which usually indicates a really cold winter but dry.

Tbh I don't mind this year cos I finally got round to buying a 4x4 after years of umming and ahhing about getting one, so this year I will be able to get up the hill I live at the bottom of without the aid of a rope and tractor!

Maybe you were onto something here giv after all, but weirdly its because its the warmest winter we have had for years that things are so bad
