Looking for some advice pertaining to new computers folks, as we have a core of if I dare say it "geeks" so where better for advice "better than another fcukin flapper mod thread anyday ;)" than here in the 1000rr world, so I'd like to if I may pick some brains for some good honest simple advice.
I'm fully understanding the fact what's good today will probably be out of date by tomorrow, that said my 2GB ram is rather slow, the storage is on its limits, yep I could get a stand alone harddrive, but the computer is rather dated and it's infuriatingly slooooooooow.
I'm currently running Windows7 ultimate, and I'm rather stuck in my ways, although like any old dog, willing to learn new tricks I.e Windows 8
I don't understand much when it comes to this Sh@t Graphics cards tech speach etc so what ill do is I'll tell you my basic needs, ill hopefully get some advice/recommendations/pi55 taking from you with links etc? and i in return? well i may even give you a like ;)

I'm not trying to put man on the moon but what I would like to do with minimum fuss is.......

Surfing the WWW for example Forums "obviously"
Storage lots of it, for pictures/Video's & music
I'd like it capable of running my 42" TV via the HDMI port "full screen not partial i'm a blind Basta"
    Wireless Internet.
    Wireless keyboard.
    Wireless mouse.
    Burn a disc or two
    Video/photo editing GoPro etc
Linking soft fruit based phones and tablets

    What I'm not arsed about.
    Touch screen.
    Gaming
    Making my tea.

There you have it and In advance, thank you. :)

iMac dude…great for editing movies and RAW files….

I've got 6tb of extra hdd space for raw files, go pro movies and films, as all as 2,000+ in lossless albums for my iTunes collection. Wireless mouse, keyboard, no wires and neat as… all printing using AirPrint and multi room audio and video via apple tv's and airport. Works seamlessly.

    Brilliant.

Love apple but as a desktop I would rather pay less for something that's faster and better?

    Just my view

I like my iPod, iPhone, ipad but £1500 for a half decent iMac. That's £500 more than my 6 year old gaming PC that's is still better than many PCs at PC world ;)

And the new imac looks the dogs danglies!! If Honda did computers they wud do the Imac :)

All the stuff u store on ur computer, ur better off storing a separate hard drive, that way ur pc can run as smooth and care free as a Honda Fireblade n u can get seperate hard drives at decent prices these days n have the flexiablilty of plugging it into other pc's be at home, round friends houses or at work ( esp if showing off euro trips on the bikes )

    MEDIONshop UK | MEDION® AKOYA® P5336 F

no screen but you have your TV from sounds of it

Has some software included, not sure if keyboard and mouse wireless or not

Mac will be at least double that, maybe 3x

    This is off Toshiba :

So how much can I store on a 1TB Drive?

Well, this is this fun bit, the answer is A LOT!

A 1TB drive can hold (actual capacity varies by content): -

    17,000 hours of music.
To put that in perspective that’s 708 days of non-stop listening to music, without sleeping – that’s just under 2 YEARS!

    320,000 high resolution digital photos
The average family takes 700 photos when they go on holiday. A 1TB drive will allow you to store 457 holidays worth of photos.

    1000 hours of digital video
Equivalent to 41 days of watching your home video footage - without sleeping.

250 DVD films (2 hours in length)
The average person in the UK watches 2 DVDs per week. That’s 125 weeks worth of DVD watching – or over 2 years worth of a collection.

In such a short space of time, some great advice and ideas, for which I thank all.
JMAMB, great idea about seperate storage devices for each Item. Agreed, saves the computer doing its head searching around.
I must admit Si/Colin Gill said IMac too, not that she understands this stuff any better, she just said she liked the look of it lol

Thanks for the links too guys as Al brought to attention "again" ;) my navigational skills are suffering of late. :)

Do you have a budget in mind ?

Amongst the other things I do, I build pc's, it's normally always cheaper to build than buy a PC from a store

I would be more than happy to build you one

A kind offer Andy thank you, I have a couple of mates up here that build them too, but difficult to discuss as they like talk a different language to me, it really does smash my head, as it means very little to me personally.
no i dont have budget in mind, When MrsB saw Si's iMac she never batted an eye lid. Which is a good base mark right?
What my main concern is, getting something that will be usable for my needs but not wasted on me of that makes sense?
I keep pushing for a computer course at work, but nothing as yet.
