Truckings in my blood line i guess? but I wouldn't like to be out on the road fulltime nowadays . I keep my hand in just to keep up with the latest trucks available, oop north not as link. "don't think they could do with me" Traffic and tight deadlines are the biggest cause of stress in this industry, rising fuel costs add to the pressure for any company to get their money's worth. But all that said, you do get to drive some very nice trucks Benton Brothers - Company History Without getting deep into genealogy, William is my great grandad. George is my Grandad ie my dads dad Come a long way from pushing a barrow around Boston green didn't he. The old Bedford pictured on the page, I remember as a kid going out in that to weekend race meetings as Dad used it to transport his stock cars. See, you come here, and you get this is your life
Fantastic that is the Benton Wagons used to pass me on my way to school when I was a kid between Sibsey and Immingham. I know a chap who drives for them on containers. Wouldnt mind handing them my cv when I have some more experience. Wages wise general class 1 24-30k ADR (hazardous mats) Tesco, Esso, Total fuels 40k+
TO be totally honest Rich, I wouldn't wait for that experience before sending a CV to any company. IMO you've shown your metal by the fact you have passed your test. There are some companies that like to pluck the fledglings of the industry so they can mould and create drivers before bad habits set in. Emails cost nothing to send mate, and you have nothing to lose by doing so.
Excellent advice that, thats y i love coming onto this forum, good honest advice all the time every time!! Bostin!!!!
This is great advice and although not trucking I did the same thing and emailed a company I wanted to work for and a week later I had a job and I'm still there 11yrs later Oh and take home pay of around 2k with a little overtime is very achievable fella
Start new job as Class 1 driver today pairing up with someone for a week plus some shunting to get my reversing upto scratch. Plenty of overtime to be had. New driver wage £450 a week plus £50 shift allowance plus overtime. Anyone wanting to get out the office and can get a start do it it's like a breath of fresh air!!
If there's anything you wanna know just gimme a shout as my brother is a driver trainer so he has seen it all Good luck and don't forget your packed lunch!
Yep, see them about up my neck of the woods quite a lot Rich. They do Inverness to Fleetwood regular. Also seen then across the water in France. And when doing Inverness? There's worse places to be trucking mate.
That's right mate do all of the Morrisons supermarkets, Lockerbie etc loads on. Plenty of reversing and shunting today get this week out the way then hit the roads next week. Immingham to Heathrow container runs easy peasy!!
Just a thought Rich, but you'll never be stuck for getting your bike to a track day ever again. And just think of the fun you can have carting your BMW round the UK/Europe
Very true it would be great to park a 44 tonner across the paddock at Cadwell like the majority of inconsiderate arse holes who turn into lemmings at the site of its car park.
Got my own run now have to double up due to driving hours. Grimsby > Reading > Farnham (across road from Farnham Honda)> Chessington > Grimsby. Burn around 230 liters of diesel!! Approx 490 miles. I sleep there in the bunk and bring us back. Well two weeks in and loving it should have done it years ago a complete breath of fresh air after dealing with many motor trade parasite line managers for years!!
Yeah I've known Kev a long time, went to sea at the same time as well as school and he bought my old RF900 off me.
