Hi guys I'm looking into buying a bike off ebay, according to the current owner it was recovered as stolen by the insurance companies and then turned into a trackbike. The engine numbers are intact although there is no V5. The frame was replaced so it is blank. Where do I stand if I get stopped by the police at a trackday? I would ask for a full receipt with the bike but what would I need to prove should I get stopped? Cheers YT
Castrol Craig put up a brilliant thread for this sort of problem mate. See if you can dig it out, was some handy info on there if the old noggin serves me right. all i would say - no V5 bikes always seem to be cheaper. firm believer in buying cheap pay dear. not that it should put you off if all is ligit then fine, i'd just want to try and make double sure it's not moody.
A blank frame must be blank no worn off numbers and no ground out numbers and all blank frames will have a receipt of sale . I have sold cat b bikes all frame numbers are left on now so the plod can check that is a cab b and that it has a COD cert of destruction. I always copy a receipt that is given to me by the supplier and give to the new owner but our full address and number is given if there any probs in the future. TBH id rather buy one with a number even if cat ,b If the blank frame has a receipt of sale from a company and the engine number is recorded as previously stolen recovered i dont think you will have a problem.
