You can now watch your beheading videos on Facebook. BBC News - Facebook 'irresponsible' over beheading videos, says PM I don't understand American standards. You're not allowed to watch someone have sex or get naked but it's fine to watch them die by decapitation I'm not a fan of censorship but I don't think Facebook is the place for either of these types of content. However I do wonder how do they make their decisions as to what is acceptable and what's not.
Facebook is hell on the web! allways has been a cruel place allways will. Hell, it was conceived to rate woman for uni students...say no more
I suspect that the system is abused so frequently that there's a backlog of offenders awaiting censure. If the system relies on readers reporting a transgression of legality or taste, somebody either has to be bothered to report it, assuming, they find it illegal or tasteless in the first place, or not succumb to the 'somebody else's problem' mentality. I watched a disagreement on a local community FB page about play park paddling pools escalate to the point that one of the arguers reported the admin of the page for not protecting 'their' side of the argument, stating that she had been 'trolled' by the other party. It resulted in the page being banned for 24 hours, no discussion. So it doesn't need much to make them act, somebody just needs to attract their attention. I've always maintained that the greatest thing about the internet is that it gives everyone a voice. The worst thing about it is that it gives everyone a voice.
iirc the minimum age for a Facebook account is 13 years old. I would hate to think that my kids would (easily) be able to get access to videos like this. It should be an opt in process like it is for other sites. Otherwise give us some proper parental controls for their crappy site. They shouldn't just hand over responsibility to the viewer. By the time they've watched something and decide they didn't like it - it's too late. I foresee other laws following this "report after the event" system: Decide if you are too young to drink, after you got pissed and can't remember if you got bum raped or not. Decide if you are too young for a gun, after you've blown someone's face off. Decide if you are too young to drive, after your passenger went through the windscreen.
Yes Ken tell me about it, I've got a 15yr old son going on 21 says things that are rude and offensive. He gets reprimanded over. Then I have a 24 yr old daughter telling everyone all things that she should keep to herself.Oh the joys of being a parent.
Kinnnelllll Mac! That's a bit specific to be random! U got some thing to tell us from when you were a teenager?
Well said. i love and hate FB. it keeps me in contact with what my good freinds and family are doing the other side of the world. But re allowing beheading I would never watch it so never had a issue with it. If you don;t want to watch it don't. I don;t think I would sleep seeing stuff like that so I choose not to watch it.
So a now ex friend shared the said video last night and it appeared on my fb so thinking 'it's obviously fake' etc I clicked the link. I'm not one to feel sick at anything and can't say I've ever experienced it before in my whole life but watching that obviously not fake video made me come very very close to throwing up. If you ever get tempted, don't watch it. God forbid a 13 year old would see that, it'd scar them for life...
I have to say a few months back 1 of our current / ex members shared a video of people being burned alive. Stupidly I started to watch it and it has haunted me ever since.
